Let me start by saying I don't want the best all out performance. An SSD is going to be much better than my HDD anyway. What I want is improved performance over HDD and more efficient power consumption. I don't want a cheap SSD so a high quality SATAII is ideal for me.
Both of these drives pull LESS than one 1W active, where many OCZ, Crucial, and Patriot drives pull over 3W. Over 300% power draw increase does not justify the sleight performance advantage to me, much to which is not noticable with real world tasks.
So I am torn between the proven track record of the Samsung 470 series (now with an updated model) and the SanDisk Ultra G25 series. The SanDisk has a 10 year warranty! I don't plan on using this drive for more than 3-5 years in my main laptop, but I could certainly place it in another machine after I retire it to a media server or my wife's laptop. The 10 year warranty and SanDisk track record are both positives to me.
So what would you guys suggest? (Price is almost the same, $15 more for SanDisk)

Tinker with things?
Intel 510/Crucial M4 are the most realible SSD's on the market. MANY Alienware users have them in their system. -

Not on the M17x R3/M18x.
What kind of boot issues? -
Honestly I can't truly recall what the specifics are. I will have to research some more again but I did see multiple people complaining about similar issues. I will try to let you know as soon as I have some time to look into it again.
