I was wondering what that square like shape on the top middle left of my display was. I checked and found out it aligned perfectly with the touchpad. Kind of like the M11X, I think the M14X has the "keys-touching-screen-when-closed" syndrome.
I really have no problem with this as the marks disappeared with a quick wipe (literally just one wipe from left to right of the screen and it was all gone) of a micro fiber cloth. Do you notice this on your M14X?
Edit:
I should probably add I keep my M14X at the back of my backpack (the end of the backpack that actually touches my back). So, maybe between my back and books, the screen is being pressed against the keys. I carried a Sony Vaio NW laptop the same way for a year and never had that problem.

If I were you, I would go :
back | books | M14x bottom
Yes, this is a "plan"
I wouldn't put anything on top of the M14x top because I think pressure could damage the screen. -
I don't have trackpad marks, but I get key marks about a third of the way over and a fourth of the way up my screen. They aren't completely key shaped, they're just a few short vertical lines.
This shows up even when the computer has been sitting on a desk and not moving the whole time, with nothing sitting on top of it. -
Even though I don't own an M14x, I have the same thing happening on my M17x R3. The left edge of the trackpad consistently touches the screen, and it leaves a noticeable imprint afterwards. Even if I leave my R3 on the desk, and gently close the lid, there's still an imprint there when I reopen it. It seems like the left edge of the trackpad protrudes just slightly, and causes this problem due to the screen resting against it. This also appears to happen with some of my letter keys too.
The problem can only be attributed to the imprecise build quality of these new Alienwares. Add in the fact that Alienwares use the "edgeless" glass display that rests against the keyboard/palmrest, any unevenness becomes more apparent after finding the imprints. Some people may or may not have this problem depending on if they got a well-built Alienware or not. -
The edgeless display looks nice, but I get fingerprints on it just about every time I open the thing.
Also, my screen is ever-so-slightly crooked (you can only tell when looking at the hinge), which may explain why my computer only gets keyboard marks on one side. -
this happened to my old m15x and the m11x , touchpad marks, keyboard marks, I just ended up buying a razor kabuto mouse pad which is also a screen cleaner and always put it between the keyboard and the screen when I close the lid. It fits perfectly with the M14x

A shaggymac or Radtech screensavrz should help. They are custom micro fibre cloths which you insert between the lid and the keyboard upon closing to prevent any direct contact between the 2.

now i see it!
