Haha no worries mate. Also one more thing, to download the factory installed software that comes with the computer (facial recognition etc) go to My Account on the dell support page and click the "Download Factory Installed Software" link on the right of the page.

And here is the download link, for Alien Autopsy, an awesome program for making sure ur computer is running well

And press the scales looking icon under my avatar on the left (just above the post reply button) to like or +rep in forum lingo ;)

Yes but u will need to install a SSD that fits the mSata space which means u can't just use any SSD. mSata SSDs are slower, more expensive and smaller in space than normal SSDs. That's why most people remove the HDD to make room for a real SSD that uses the Sata III space

That's the exact configuration I have now and it works fine.

I used a CT256M4SSD3 256GB Crucial m4 Internal mSATA. I configured it as the C: drive and now use the 500GB as the D: storage drive. I set the M14x R2 to ACPI mode in the v.A04 BIOS.

I benchmarked it and got this:

    Crystal Disk Mark mSATA.jpg

    Hope that helps.

They're not much slower any longer. Companies are miniaturizing their 2.5" models and getting similar speeds. Plus, the r2 supports full SATA III :)

With the R2, do you have to sacrifice the disk drive or hdd for an ssd install? I thought that they allowed for two drives plus the disk drive, just wanted to clarify.

If you want to use a 2.5" SSD...Yes. There is only one designed space for a 2.5" drive.

However, if you didn't opt for the WWAN card then you have an available slot that can be used for an mSATA style solid state drive (which is the size and shape of an internal wireless card) and then you can still keep your HDD as well as the optical drive.

I am surprised no one is running a 2.5 and msata in RAID-0. I have been using a Mushkin Atlas 120 and a Corsair Force GT 120 and I am getting amazing speeds particularly with small file sizes which is where it counts imo.
I have never seen anything like these numbers in ATTO. for anyone who already has a synchronous sandforce-based sata3 ssd, it is well worth the cost. I am about to order a 240 as i already have a 240 force gt to raid it with.

I am using a Mushkin Atlas 120 msata aswell but not getting a much of a speed boost compared to the stock HDD. It is possible for u to post the benchmark results of the Atlas 120

the link for the jpg under my post is a ATTO screenshot.

keep in mind this is 2x 120GB SSD's in RAID0 giving me around 222GB formated. not bad considering a good sata and msata set isnt much more than a single 240GB drive.

its strange, it must support sata3 because on the msata alone I get 555 writes but reads seem to be limited to around 350. Im running 11.2.1006 of the intel RST for RAID0 Trim support so this may be my problem. i did however see someone with an r2 in the mushkin support forum with the same results who was told it must be defective and to RMA it.

can anyone else with a sata3 msata ssd post your speeds in ATTO?

    Thanks in advance!

I attached your pic to my thread. Or you just have to put .jpg at the end.

    What drive did you use?

Are the msata slots not getting high R/W results or are these the ratings of the drive?

I'm looking at a Mushkin Atlas 120gb and a Mushkin Chronos 120gb, both with 500+ R/W and want to put in raid 0 and hopes to hit 1000 R/W.

I installed a Crucial M4 mSATA SSD 256GB also and it works great. M14X R2 supports SATA 3 and utilizes full speeds. Crucial is my recommendation.
