yes it does fit... 2.5" is what you need... do you have m14x r1 or m14x r2..?
i have m14x r1 and i have horrible experience with intel 520 just because it is sata 3...
i dont know about samsung 830... but m14x r2 should be fine...

you can actually keep both drives if you dont need your cd drive...
buy a caddy and stick the old drive in it and install it in place of the cd drive...
put the new ssd and place it in the original drive space...

    run faster and cooler... hmmm...
clean it from dust... repaste cpu... disable turbo boost from bios...

I use my CD drive a lot. And I have an R1. So just replacing factory hard drive is fine by me.

great choice then... i say go for it...
a few people reported a few months ago that sam830 is stable with m14x...

one thing... if you are running the latest bios a08 then it is going to lock the ssd to sata 2 speed...
    250mbs instead of 500mbs...
i suggest installing older bios like a05...

To my understanding SSD's are 2.5 and they're meant to fit a laptop. So go ahead and safely upgrade that in your R2. To keep your system cool, monitor the temps on a regular basis. Check out this article, it holds good practices.
