Hey so I've been creeping these forums for quite a while and I finally got my M14x. Pretty happy with it =D
One thing that I do have an issue with is the virtual scrolling on this laptop though. First, I tried the basic one finger scrolling on the right side of the trackpad but I'm struggling with it because sometimes it doesn't detect my finger and the trackpad sensor doesn't extend all the way to the right which can also be annoying. I've seen some youtube videos of other people not having their trackpad reach all the way on the left/right so I guess it's just the way they build the laptop.
So, as a solution I thought I'd try two finger scrolling. I updated the laptop with the latest Synpatics drivers and tried to do two finger scrolling but it really sucks. Most people have said their two finger scrolling works great/almost as good as Macs but I cannot get anything close to that. IF the laptop does notice that I'm trying to do two finger scrolling it usually doesn't move the screen at all and then it'll jump all the way to the bottom/top.
Does anyone think they have the solution to why I'm not getting as good as results as others are with the two finger method? Thanks!

i hate my two finger scroll, two fingers work better on my eee netbook than this. i don't know what the hell is wrong. i've resorted to using up/down/pg up/pg down/home/end

Yeah, two finger scrolling was the best with my old mac, but the side scrolling works really good too, for me at least maybe depends on the size of your fingers?

If you go to Alienware Command Center, Alien Touch, and then virtual scrolling and look at the scrolling region. Does the cross-heir go to the very edge of the "scrolling region" when you move your finger to the edge? -
What I do is increase the size of the scrolling area and just not put my finger all the way to the edge when I want to scroll. It works pretty nicely for me.

here try this program, its alot smoother than alienwares and you can use two finger middle click! two finger scroll: two-finger-scroll - Two finger gestures for Synaptics TouchPads on Windows - Google Project Hosting

Two fingers scroll works really well on my M14x.
I believe you should take a look into the synaptics settings and reduce the scroll speed.
Also, three fingers scroll gets you to the top/bottom of the page instantly by default, maybe you've been using three fingers by mistake.
Finally, there is an option called "intertia" or "speed" or something which allows the page to keep scrolling for a while if you flick two fingers instead of keeping them on the touchpad ( I'm not sure if I explained this well ) and it works perfectly.
Again, go and check your synaptics settings ( Control Panel -> Mouse -> Synaptics etc ) -
Thanks for both of your guys' help btw! =D
EDIT: Nvm! Found the answer to that, just decreased the amount of notches moved or something in the settings. -
Choose one option and disable other. If you hate double finger scrolling, disable it and slightly increase the size of the scrolling area or disable one finger scrolling and use only two fingers. It makes scrolling better.
Even after that I don't know why, but Chrome - which I use as a default browser still has some strange scrolling when I use touchpad. It's seems to be better in IE and Firefox, but Chrome is different. I tried some Chrome extensions, lowered the scrolling speed, and yet it feels somehow intermittent. And it's only in Chrome and only on touchpad.
