The drivers for the GPU on the official Dell page are still 267.21 since a couple of months now... 275.33 is the latest official Nvidia drivers...
How often does Dell updates this???
-
I don't know specifically about the Alienware drivers, but for other Dell devices...not very often.
-
well with my past acer... it was never updated..... so just use the modded .inf file, kinda a pain but hey gets you up to date

The M14x shouldn't need a modified .inf at all. The standard NVIDIA drivers support the particular 555M that's in this particular laptop.
-
I went to nvidia and chose the GT 555M 275.33 drivers...but, when I tried to install, it wouldn't let me. Said it was due to not finding supported hardware.
Should it install without a modified inf? And if so, what am I doing wrong? -

It need a modded inf, be sure of your info before saying crap. -
while the download does support the 555m the manufacture of a laptop "may" not support it.
usually laptop manufactures want to keep everything at stock that they "knew" worked with everything they tested.
modifying the .INF file is at this time the only way to get Nvidea's updated drivers to install on the alienware branded laptop. -
It needs the modded .inf. To my understanding, the gt555m that dell uses isnt supported by nvidia. I keep the modded .inf in a folder in my documents and just copy and paste whenever i update the driver. Probably dell did some heavy modifications to the card, but its easy to update. First download the new driver, run it, it'll fail to install, but it will create a folder in the c drive you need, called nvidia, should be one of the first folders in the c drive. Then copy the nwiz file (you can find a dl of it on here, or use your old one found in your old display driver folder)into the new folder, it goes in the last display.driver folder, just keep clicking. then go back to the beginning of the folder and click setup. Remember to delete the old driver folder probably found in program files x86 after you install the new driver, and move the new folder you made and modded there if you want to stay organized.

and come on, lighten up, he made a mistake, no need to bash him.

Wowwwwww.............easy mate
.......Someone posted a modified inf
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/588113-nvidia-275-50-modded-inf.html
not sure...if this was a successful work around. -
It is, you can even use the old nwiz.inf file that's in your stock driver software, copy and paste that into the new driver folder. That worked for me at least.
-
hey guys, ive tried 275.33 and 275.50 with the modded infs, and i've had a couple bsod's and am unable to whitelist games, anyone else with that problem? ugh just wish dell would update them.
-
This is why I wanted the drivers "officially" updated on Dell's page instead of the modified .inf trick...
Dell should definitely support this aspect much more more, it's a damn gaming laptop, and if new drivers that improves performance come out I want them with no issues...
-
I could be wrong, but I dont think the .inf doesn't has anything to do with the operation of the graphics card, it couldn't cause any failures, bluescreens, or crashes. I used the modded .inf file , never had a problem. But the m14x is kinda buggy, and crashes of a game do occur for me when trying to get out of fullscreen and then going back to the game, but random crashes are somewhat common to gaming laptops.
-
okay, maybe its just mine then that bsods... but is anyone with 275 or higher able to whitelist?
-
nope having the same issue...with 275 and 270..... never noticed before as i have this hooked up to a 1080p monitor......
FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!
and dells ty website is such a pain -
Play nice, we all make mistakes and have to eat crow once in awhile. this is where newbies come to learn let's make it a nice time.
As far as updating the drivers this laptop is really "new" to worry about new drivers.
To quote: "the newest driver is not always the best driver" -
Well, it's the "only" driver that can play gta iv, which i happen to have bought, and now, sadly can't play.

OK, I was wrong, I'll admit that. Now get the sand out of your hoo-ha.
-
Ok --So, sorry if this is a dumb question, but can anyone point me to the modded inf file for the 275.33 driver? I've searched on here for it, but the search doesn't bring back any results, and couldn't find anything through google.
