I noticed in a YouTube video that someone has a Samsung hard drive (500GB 7200RPM HM500JJ) in their M14x...mine is a 500GB Western Digital 7200RPM Scorpio Black (WDC WD5000BEKT).
Which one did you guys get stock? Just curious because I have a replacement coming and I want to figure out which is the best to keep (if I get a different one)...
There are a few ways to check:
1) BIOS
2) Computer Management > Device Manager > Disk drives
3) Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management

ST9500423AS Momentus 7200.4 500GB
It is bloody slow
Swapped for X25-M straight away

Yeah, I have an Intel 510 series 120GB SSD on the way. I just want to make sure my storage drive is the best there is. So far it looks like what I have already (WD Scorpio Black) is the best.

both samsung and WD are very good makes, i would keep the WD though i think
I will let you know what i have when i get mine -
I got 500GB Western Digital 7200RPM Scorpio Black

+1 its a P.O.S
-
I just ordered mine and it has:
750GB 7,200RPM SATA-II HDD
Not sure of the make/model yet, but i'm assuming it will be a WD. -
Samsung HM500JJ. Very fast. Got lucky I guess.

I've found mobile WD drives to be a little on the slow side. Hitachi drives are nice, but my favourite at the moment is Samsung. It's a pity they've been bought by Seagate...

Which is the better HDD? So i know if I hit jackpot lol
-
imo the differences are not really noticeable or significant until the drive fail
they all all old tech average mechanical hdd, end of story. -
Although the WD Scorpio Black is currently $10 more than the Samsung on NewEgg...may matter for somone replacing the drive with an SSD and re-selling it.

Refer to my other post if you have a Seagate drive in your system.

Wouldn't want anyone's system to become corrupt because they didn't have the latest firmware on their HDD.
