than on my laptop? My M14x has the i7 cpu, and my desktop has the QX9650. Everyone tells me the i7 is much faster. So why does everything load faster on my desktop computer?

Maybe faster HDD, more free RAM, different OS config? CPU is hardly everything.

The speed of the HDD is the same. I do have 2 extra gigs of more ram on my desktop...but the clock speed is slower than the ones in my laptop. The only difference in the os is that my desktop is using Windows 7 Ultimate.

Clock speed isnt everything, RAM, HDD transfer rates NOT RPM, motherboard efficency, etc makes a world of difference here

it is VERY tough to compare laptops and desktops, even your drivers and how cleanly loaded your OS is is noticable. chances are you have 2 extra gig of RAM, and a faster transferring HDD and a cleaner OS on the desktop, your CPU speed has little to do with how fast you load an app up.

Example. I have an old Athlon XP 3200 system with 8 GB of antique DDR but matched with a Promise SAS controller and 10K server hard drives and it loads apps much faster than my husbands M18X with a max CPU spec and a 7200RPM WD Black HDD.

Well, that explains why I get a higher cpu score on 3dmark on my laptop than I do on my desktop. Thanks, but how do I find out the transfer rates on my HD?

    HDtune is one I use

you can also look at the mfgr spec sheets. your random read/wrte speeds are most important

I just tried HDtune on both desktop and laptop. The average mb/s on my desktop is about 59...and the average on my laptop is 85.7. Hmmmm, maybe it's the 2 extra gigs of ram?
