With all the ultrabooks coming out with this resolution why is the m14x still stuck at 900p???

It'd be tough for the 650m to drive newer games to frames acceptable for that resolution.

I call BS! My firepro 5950 can drive FHD+ on games just fine and its slightly weaker then the 650m.

I agree with Sphinx. Even if the 650m can't handle all games at its current native resolution there is no reason why we can't have a full hd resolution for daily tasks!

If the next m14x doesn't have a full hd screen with a matte option I will probably look elsewhere.

While I LOVE the matte display, for me I would still take a glare type 1080p screen as I would just like to have more gaming umph and slightly smaller package then the precision. Honestly I dont see the option happening and Ill will most likely be sticking with the m4600 and hoping for the funds to upgrade the GPU.

Because cost cutting is the trend? They aren't gonna design a new board (at least before the next refresh) just to incorporate new screen standards. Some of the ultrabook variant use non-standard (as in not so common) LVDS cable or eDP.

If it can be done, plenty of DIY would had been done.

1600x900 is pretty comfortable for a 14" screen to be honest. If you want a higher res I would plug in a nice external monitor.

Im wondering why they didnt from the start. Im pretty sure there would have been plenty of enough buyers to warrant it.

Um not for what I do. Im an IT/developer and working on 1080p is bad enough...900p would be unbearable. External monitor? Am I supposed to carry one of these around everywhere I go? My laptop is a tool I bring with me literally everywhere and Im away from my office and home ALOT and the times Im in the office or at home I cannot sit at a static location so the external LCD argument is a copout.

While 900p is fine for some gamers, most still prefer and yearn for 1080p. Seems like the trend these days to spec computers toward a small crowd's part time at best activity (think 16:10 to 16:9 was "for better movie watching"). Offer more options and youll draw in more customers. Had the m14x just had a 1080p option and still had the sata 3 instability I would have bought one over my m4600 without a doubt and Im a 95% professional 5% gamer type user.
