I think anyone who was worried about the capabilities of the GT 555m can rest easy. Notebook check reviewed the XPS 17 and they were able to run Crysis 2 at 1366x768 on very high. Considering that the 3GB card vs the 1.5 GB card really doesn't make much of a difference, and that many people concerned with performance got the lower resolution m14x screen, you can rest easy knowing that Crysis 2 is playable on Very High settings.
Full review
Their results:
Crysis 2
Resolution Settings Value
1920x1080 Extreme 13.3 fps
1366x768 Very High 41.6 fps
1024x768 High 55.4 fps
800x600 High 81 fps
Also, Black Ops got 67.6 FPS on high with 2xAA and 4xAF at the same resolution. It was even a playable 42.9 fps at Full HD with the highest settings and 4xAA and 8xAF. They list other games they tested as well.

Great News!

And that's probably without OC
-
I'm wondering how well it will run Dirt 2.
-
Dirt 2 was 31.8 fps on ultra, presumably at 1920x1080 (that's the resolution they used for ultra settingd in their other tests). It was 58.1 on high, presumably at 1366x768.

Very nice. Wait, is this a DX11 card? Are these games all running on DX11?

Somebody has a video of the m14x running Crysis 2. He said he averages 35fps
His specs are:
I7 2630qm
4GB 1600 Mhz
nvidia gt555m 1.5GB
1600x900p screen

Just running raw mathematics on those figures, it should be capable of averaging 30fps+ at 1600x900 in Very High settings in Crysis 2. That's...something pretty incredible for a 14" notebook.
-
The 555m is a Direct X 11 compatible graphics card. I don't know if the review said if this game was played using DX11, though.
-
Crysis 2 being DX9, that'd be a "no".

Crysis 2 is dx9 currently, they are working on dx11 code. Certainly capable of playing this game...

Is Crysis 2 more demanding than the original Crysis? I know that Warhead was optimized so that it could run at higher settings than Crysis on an identical computer, but has there been enough time between Crysis and Crysis 2 that higher expected specs outweigh any further optimization?
Basically, can a computer that runs Crysis 2 on very high also run Crysis on very high? What about the other way around? -
I find the battery life on this worrying... Same internals as the m14x I ordered and a much larger battery, and it only lasts 2.5hrs?

Well after an hour with Crysis 2 on my m14x at 1600 by 900 at extreme settings I am getting a totally solid performance with no noticeable shutdown as of yet. This can still change as the action gets more involved, but thus far I am very happy with the performance of the m14x and Crysis 2.

I am going to assume that is at stock as well correct Hengst? We need something where we can see the exact same things, same settings and we can compare apples to apples to see if their is a difference in cards. I can tell you this, if you download 3dmark11 and run it against your machine at stock clocks and let us know your score that would be great. Dont worry about 3dmark06 as it give NO VALUE at all. My guess is that at stock you will hit around 1313-1336 stock.
Thanks,

i dowloaded and ran 3dmark11, but got no score. not sure if i ran it wrong or what. did the custome test at 1600 by 900 resolution. what wpuld be the best way to run this? do i need to do anything with my laptop first? disable any programs or something? never used hat program pri to buying the advanced version thia morning
XPS 17 w/ 3GB 555m runs Crysis 2 at 41.6 fps on very high
