    Hi,

With all the discussion on the 3.0 gig 555M card, it's time to make a decision.

Mine was delivered on the 3rd of Jan. so I have until the 24th to return it. I updated the bios to A08 and the card to 269. Haven't tried to update drivers on the Nvidia site. Everything is fine but from what I've read you still can't update those drivers and may lose the installed card in the process.

I shouldn't be restricted like this after paying $1500 for a rig. I know they may find solutions to all of this but why should I have to?

I will insist on not being charged the 15% restocking because in my mind this is a faulty laptop. If you can't upgrade to the latest drivers then this is not a workable system. I already have the one I want saved in my cart and as soon as I decide to return it I will order it. I have the SSD drive, my first with that type of drive and I love this machine, but I expect a completely pristine rig for this amount of money. I'm within the 21 days so I really don't owe Dell an explanation to return it. The one in my cart is exactly the same except it will have the 1.5 card instead of the 3.0.

Many of you guys are having these issues but are beyond your 21 day return.

So, my question is, if you were within your 21 days would you return it? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

    Bill

I completely have the same feelings as you because mine is being delivered tommorow

There is one thing you have to understand about technology, it has errors, there is never the perfect laptop out there that will never have problems. Dell knows about this problem, Nvidia knows about it, and most of all YOU know about it, so all i can say is hold off, time will bring updated drivers that you can install. There are multiple fixes out there that have just been discovered.

I ordered the 1.5 gig card and am really happy it currently does not have a problem but all i can say is don't worry, your problem will not last forever and you did the right thing by not updating the drivers.

    Thanks Papa,

I understand where you are coming from. I am sure the issues will eventually be resolved. But why should I and anyone else with this card wait and see? Now, if I wasn't within that 21 day window I would not have a choice. I just spent $1500 on this machine and this is a known issue. I understand there will possibly be issues with all electronics, and we deal with it, I know I have.

I'm not sure I should sit back and wait until Dell or Nvidia fix the problem, but more importantly, I shouldn't have to. This isn't something that occured after I received my rig. This was delivered to me knowing an important function of the machine was not operating properly.

I'll probably decide tomorrow what I'm going to do. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.

Enjoy receiving your new rig soon. It's like Christmas morning. I know I was excited.

Are you returning your M14x because Dell didn't install the latest Nvidia driver on it?
    Is this right?

I agree, these problems should be thought out ahead of time before release. And on the part about how you "shouldent have to" deal with these problems, well hell, thats what separates us from console freaks, i started with an HP XXX computer knowing jack squat, after that and an m11x i consider myself a decent computer know it all. Computers are much more advanced and therefore can have more problems, but out of this comes a much much much greater playing experience.

No. The 3.0 gig card has an issue that if you go to the nvidia site and try to upgrade the latest driver, I believe it is 285.62, it won't install and sometimes will make the installed card unuseable. Dells newest driver is 269.27 which is an old driver having limitations on some games. My feeling is if you spend this much on a machine and can't update the latest drivers then this is a problem. Apparently the 1.5 card doesn't have this problem and the problem just started occuring in machines built late Dec. when Dell reconfigured the 3.0 card. That is the reason for the A08 bios update on the 11th of Jan. and the 269 driver update on the 12th.

Ok, thanks for the details, I was unaware of the issue with the 3.0Gb card.

    Good reason for a return.
