Intel® Core i5 2430M 2.4GHz (3.0GHz with Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache) 8GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz 1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus technology 14.0" High Def (720p/1366x768) with WLED backlight is this good enough to play games like wow,bf3 mw3 gta 4 on medium or higher settings.
-
you could probably run wow on high but others yes medium
-
WoW and BF3 on Medium (or Custom if tweaked), MW3 and GTA4 on High or Ultra (If Applicable), for GTA4 you'll need some commandline to get it work, and you can follow this link for the line and how to: GTA4 Commandline and this is the benchmark: GTA4 Benchmark
Just make sure that you white list the game, force the game to run on the GT555M GPU instead of the Intel iGP. Link for Guide: How to Whitelist games with Optimus However this is a MW3 version, but it is all the same for other game, all you need to change is the game .exe file. -
get the 3gb graphics card, it's worth it for the price. If im not wrong the 1.5 is ddr3 and the 3.0 is gddr5 which is about 40% better in performance.
-
They are both DDR3. I hope I am wrong LOL
-
I knew a Dmonie from WoW (mage), that wouldn't happen to be you, eh?
Get the i7 instead of the i5 for better performance in certain games if you can afford it.
The games you mentioned will run at medium/high, with the exception of WoW, which will run high+. -
You are wrong. The 3GB version is a DDR3 not GDDR5, I believe they are both pretty much the same (the 1.5GB and the 3GB) except for the 3GB has more memory than the 1.5GB. There are 3 type of GT555M, one is the 128Bit DDR3 which is the 1.5GB and another is 192Bit DDR3 which is the 3GB while the third one is the 128Bit GDDR5 that is available to some other laptop (See HERE for reference)
See this picture above, I took it with GPUZ. -
M14x will not easily play BF3 or MW3 without some tweaking of the graphics settings. It will end up being a mix of medium and high settings for multiplayer.
It is quite a disappointment really but it is pretty much the best graphics card you can currently put in a laptop this small. If you want to play games on high settings all the time you will need the bigger m17x. So far, however, I can run Skyrim and many other games on high at least, but newer games will eventually become a problem. So m17x is much more future proof because you can upgrade the graphics card, while you cannot do that with m14x because the GPU is soldered into the motherboard.
M14x is if you want a true portable laptop that can play these games on medium settings for sure and maybe high settings. M17x is if you DEFINITELY want to play on high or ultra, but it is a big bulky machine and not good for carrying around at all. Even normal 17 inch laptops look awkwardly wide and large, but m17x is even thicker and bigger and heavier. So that is the trade off. -
I play BF3 at high on single player, and medium on multiplayer. those new drivers every few weeks from nvidia are improving the fps steadily. and you can always overclock.
RAGE is currently running on high everything, but guess thats not the most graphically demanding game!
Also, i ran BF3 on medium in multiplayer and was pleasantly suprised! Even seen a dude run it on low on his M11x, and its still looked good!
