It's perfectly normal if you get a loud fan noise on 14x while gaming...thats means the fan is doing its job to cool down this easily over-heated machine..BUT, the one thing i cant stand is that the fan will constant kick in for about 20 sec in the middle of night when the machine is on......before the fan kicks in, i can even hear three click sounds made from the harddrive.

SO, do any of u have the same issues? pls tell me why

the three clicks are not coming from the HDD, theyre actually coming from the fan.

you got the Bios A05 on? keeps it wheigh nicer. else make sure the vents are not full of dust. further stuff like flash keep the cpu busy and warm.

Lol why not just shut it down so it saves from waking you from your beauty sleep. I don't really mind it when you think of the power it has in the machine. Plus when gaming I usually have headphones or the laptop is hooked up to my amp and tv and play 7.1. Pretty much drowns the noise out.

The clicks are normal, they come from the fan not the hard drive. What I did that really helped was stopped a lot of start up programs/processes so that the cpu wouldn't get hot really fast. I think the major thing that really helped was that I stopped the realtek driver from starting up in the msconfig menu. It was hogging 30 percent or more of my CPU.

30% of your CPU for that one program?? wow that's a lot of power to be taken just for a start up program. I have the same CPU in my m17x and I only use about 1% on idle. And idle is with all my driver stuff running in the background and some windows gadgets.

I don't have these issues because I don't leave my laptop on all night while I sleep. If I do fall asleep watching a movie or listening to music, my laptop is sitting on my Cooler Master u2 laptop cooler, which is quieter than the m14x fan. I never hear the m14x fan kicking on unless I'm working in Cubase, rendering audio or gaming.

The obvious solution is to shut down your computer when it's going to be idle for a significant amount of time. But if you just have to have it on, get a notebook cooler with a quiet fan and leave it on with it.

I really can't complain about my m14x's fan, even when it's on high. I have an Xbox 360 sitting right next to it that is three times as loud. It's like a jet engine. It's all about perspective.

at idle the fan should barely come on since the CPU and GPU aren't really doing anything. I can say that my CPU and gpu fans on my m17x only really come on when I'm playing games or running benchmarks.
