Did you order the accidental damage coverage for 49.99? If so, call Dell. If not, call Dell.

Well you're in luck. The tangible part of the screen, its just a plastic cover, not the actual screen. look at youtube videos, i believe someone from this forum made a video of just snapping off the plastic cover. Easy replacement if you ask dell to ship the part of even if a tech has to come out.

same here, just a little mark. i think it comes from the keyboard. since i dont transport my machine that often, never put any pressure on the display cover..

gonna open a case, since a few other little things come up (soft touch peeling of), palm-rest flexes on left side.

not the build quality i expected.

i feel like the build quality is lacking as well. with mine, the screen bezel that that plastic cover fits into is a little uneven. there is more space between the two parts on the left side then the right which is leading to some light leaking out of the seam which makes it look super cheap and ugly and extremely annoying at night. also i have that flex on the left side, an finally when i open my laptop the hinges make creeking noises. now was i expect for two grand. not sure if i should call dell though, because ive hear horror stories about techs making the systems even more creeky and crappy, even going as far to fail to even replace all the screws ect.

Yeah I agree as well. Great machine, but personally, I expected a little more in quality. My hinge is fine, but it creeks a lot too. There are flexes at the left and right side of the keyboard, so if i grab it there to move it while its open, it really flexes. The heat I cant stand, especially while not gaming. I might be nit picking, but they just overlooked a lot of issues, like Dell just said, F it, we'll sell it anyways to our customers. But overall it's still a great laptop, maybe the R2 version will have all the kinks ironed out.

You have creaks in your hinge? Damn, I would be yelling at dell on the phone if mine did that

I had this and it was a horizontal abrasion caused by the keyboard surround touching the screen when the lid was closed. I take my laptop all over the place with me so was always likely to see this if it was a flaw. It is a flaw, sadly. You need something between screen in keyboard to protect it. Either a Razer Kabuto mousepad, or a Shaggymac cloth.

Full credit to Dell though - they replaced my keyboard, wrist rest, keyboard surround and entire screen/ lid assembly after I'd sent them a few photos. The problem is that the scratching was visible to the human eye, but very difficult to get a pic of.

Do not remove the plastic cover from the front of your screen if you're still under warranty. The cover is attached to the screen/ lid in a dust free atmosphere and once removed, the likelihood of you getting dust in your screen will be much greater.

Call Dell - they will sort it out for you, and order something to protect it asap. I was initially very annoyed by having to do this, but there just isn't another laptop that would do the job for me, and if you use a Shaggymac, the screen is always very clean. :D

Guys, the trick is to purchase a good microfiber cloth and ALWAYS keep it between your keyboard and screen when you close the lid. I began doing this practise after my MSI laptop did this during transport.

    I recommend a Shaggymac:
    Laptop Screen Protector for PC

I used the 17" since my laptop at the time was 17". A 15.6" would probably fit perfectly ;)

    ---

As for warranty coverage, I'm pretty sure they'll only cover it if you have accidental damage premium warranty. If not, you'll probably get billed for it. Never hurts to try, though. Let us know the results :)

Judging by dimensions listed on the web, the 15.6 would be way too big for the M14X... almost an inch and a quarter too wide. Their 15.4 would be closer at just under a quarter inch too wide. Their 14" is almost an inch short. Apparently they don't make a perfect fit for the M14X, but I might try the 15.4".

Couldn't you just use the sleeve that it comes with to put inbetween the keyboard and the screen? (When you're not putting the whole laptop in the sleeve obviously  ). I don't have mine *yet* so this may be a bad suggestion but who knows!

I think the neosprene sleeve would be too bulky between the screen/keyboard if it were being transported in a backpack. I'd say the microfiber cloth is the best bet for travelling ;)

The sleeve is probably fine just for home use, though.
