Hey guys, iv been trying to fix this for days but i cant work it out, iv been having this issue with the NVIDIA control panel.

it started that every time i opened it it would crash and close it self, so i tried updating the drivers but that didnt change anything. So i thought i would try deleting it and downloading it again but when i do that it just fails to install, i have tried all the options within the installer but it allways stops on the first part which the graphics section.

i have also tried installing the new beta one and the older one.

so now nothin INVIDIA shows up on my computer and i cant install it... :/

i dont know if any of that made any sense, sorry, any one know what it might be or be able to help i would really appreciate it! :)

Have you tried selecting custom when you do an install, you will get the option to do a clean install, tick the box, it will then remove the old driver re-boot the notebook and then continue to install the new driver.

You can try running driver sweeper and removing any remaining drivers Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

    Then reinstall the drivers.

My question is, did this always happen or did it recently start?

    thanks for the reply! :)

yea iv tried all the different options in the install but it still fails :(

i restart the lapy but nothing ever shows up, and now it takes about 10 seconds for the menu to show up when i right click at the main screen, seems iv just made it worse :(

@ custom90gt, i noticed this a few days ago, i tried to whitelist is it? a 3d package to use the graphics card but it wouldnt work..
I will try that driver sweeper though thanks! :)

Also try uninstalling the intel gpu driver and reinstalling it first.

@ custom 90gt, when i use driver sweeper, what do i want to get rid of, everything, or just the file versions? (not including directory and registry)

I'd try getting rid of everything because it may be an obscure registry setting that is messing things up.

Did it actually let you whitelist anything or is that when you noticed the problem? I haven't seen this issue so really I'm kinda shooting into the air...

Does it give you an error code when you open it? does it tell you xxxx.exe or whatever stops responding?

Try reflashing your bios. I've have it happen to me that it won't detect the dedicated graphics card

its pretty easy. get the flash file from dell support, make sure your machine is in a stable state (on power, finished booting, no background programms, dont plugin or out any components, usb....) and run the .exe file.

May sound like a silly suggestion but have you scanned for viruses/malware? Not sure how either of these may affect your nvidia settings but it may affect your ability to re-install programs correctly.

Also, have you tried all of the above suggestions running in safe mode? Boot up in safe mode - uninstall existing drivers - re-install latest driver.

If you've tried all that it may be worth giving dell support a call as it may be something to do with your graphics card.

iv managed to get it installed now, but it still crashes when i open it.
i managed this by finding the folder it was installing too, and making that folder open to everyone instead of the system.

the only thing is when i load up nvidia control panel it says..

'NVIDIA control panel application 4.2.710.0 has stopped working'
a problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

but it doesnt come up with an error message or anything :/

Maybe it's time for a recovery of your system. You should have a recovery CD in the box that the laptop came in. If you want to do this (which will revert your laptop back to factory settings) it'll be best if you backup any thing of importance to an external drive or something beforehand.

My suggestion is reformat and do clean reinstallation again. I had encountered before and I did clean reinstallation. Then, everything went fine.

Ok so here's the deal. I got my first M14x November 17th, tried downloading new drivers for my wireless Killer 1103 card. The second the computer would try to connect to my wi Fi I would get te bsod. After a cple of crashes my video card just disappeared. Seemed like I never had it to begin with, I had to do an Alien Respawn and then it mysteriously re appeared again. There were too many problems with the machine so I arranged for a replacement unit. Waited over a month for the replacement since a lot of parts were back ordered due to the Christmas rush, finally got the new machine and uses what, not only was the wireless card still messed up ( wouldn't let me access iTunes, thus I couldn't back up my iPhone or my iPad ) the top row of keys were sticking and surprise surprise my video card seemed missing again just like what you see. The funny thing if I played a game like Skyrim it would run on high settings and looked good, thus it was running through the gpu, but if I tried to update the drivers it would say that the hardware couldn't be found blah blah. I tried everything, clouding reflashing the bios ( from the new a07 which ran really quiet mind you, to the older a05 ) nothing helped. Eventually the AW support said the only option they could see was to send a tech out and replace my card. I got real upset, I could not believe I paid $1800 after $400 in coupons and promotions mind you, jus to get 2 lemons in a row. So today I send both laptops back to Dell. I think I'm gonna make the switch to a Mac and not deal with drivers and other windows BS once and for all. Ideally wanted an M14x but I don't think I was destined to have one. I'm really hoping your card reappears and you can enjoy your machine, but I think Dell is killing AW because this particular one is really plagued with quality issues. Either that or I'm just the unluckiest guy here.

Agreed, looks like it is time to phone them up.

Is the warranty of a refurbished laptop the same as dells usual warranty?
I typed my service tag into dell support and my warrenty ends on the 12/08/2012 so i have lods of time haha, but will they come and fix it for free or will I have to pay? :/ im so useless at this sort of thing haha

I'm pretty sure your warranty should cover the costs associated with that specific issue, granted it's only a software problem.

You should be grand, but you should always keep a back-up via usb hard drive or similar. Good practice if anything calamitous were to happen.... :)
