i'd say it will come out after sometime after the ivy bridge refresh which is in the march/April time frame. another thing that dell might have to wait on is nvidia if they go with a similar graphics configuration![]()

I'd like to see:
1) Side Scroll bar on the touch pad.
2) Additional USB port
3) Matte Screen
4) Hard Volume Control. Not sure why every laptop doesn't have a hard volume button/dial/knob?
5) AC adapter that's easier to insert into machine
6) On the fly Keyboard LED color changes.
7) The Ablity to turn off the LED around the touchpad -
I would like to see everything DOWNGRADED so that it has a worse graphics card like the NVIDIA GT 335M and an Intel i3 Processor, that way I can feel smart and happy that I bought the first M14x model instead of sad and angry that there is now a better one that they should have sold in the first place.
Seriously what is this R1, R2, R3 nonsense? How about M14x RFinal?
That said, the USB ports on the right side are too close together, and the screen has a low color gamut, and I can't max out Crysis 3 or 4 so that means it sucks. -
Hopefully before next June, all I can say really. Ideally it will have:
2 USB 3.0 ports (if it doesn't already)
matte screen option
color option that isn't red or black (Cosmic Blue anyone?)
better CPU and GPU
even longer battery life -
Hey buy now to enjoy or just wait. Since the m14x could run most games at a good setting I do not see it being upgraded anytime soon. Throw a dart at a calendar and that my friend will be your release date.

What I would like to see in the M14x r2
USB 3.0 Ports
3GB highest GT class GPU made for 17 inch laptops
full quad core i7 CPU
6 hours of battery
HD+ 1600x900 14 inch display
2.1 audio setup with a freaking subwoofer
crysis 2 maxed 30fps
oh wait -

and my poor m17x got killed by dell so idk what i'm gonna end up with at this point
-
1) The touchpad has the ability to control scroll.
5) the AC adapter is easy to plug in!
6) Keyboard changes can be done by hitting FN + pause.
7) Touchpad light can be turned off using FN + insert.
and all lights can be killed using FN + print screen. -
I've already gotten used to holding down the mouse button, but a dedicated built-in touchpad scroll would have been nice.

Ontopic: I don't care for a R2, happy with my R1 -
Thanks guys! I'll try everthing later tonight.

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn off that LED without turning off the touchpad completely.

Right click on the AlienFX Alien head in your taskbar, and hit "Keep Status Zones On During Go Dark" to unchecked. Touchpad should go off now. If not, try reinstalling AlienFX as that would be a problem

forget about the m14x r2... I'll be getting the new Razor Blade gaming laptop by the time r2 comes out ^o^

all in all its performance doesn't match the m14x because it has an HD Display, and only a dual core processor, and I doubt its gonna be easy to upgrade anything in it. best part is it costs $2800so if you wanna pay almost double the price of a loaded m14x and not get as good performance be my guest
-
wow, the razor only has a gt555... thats sad, they should have tossed in sli 460m's for that price or sli 580m's

the price actually reminds me of the apple strategy. Over-charging for crappy hardware
-
I'd rather get a MacBook Pro 17 + Windows than the Razer Blade, with a quad-core CPU, HD 6770M, slimmer and lighter and believe it or not, cheaper. Sure, the Blade looks great, but so does the MBP and $2800 for that hardware!? What a joke.

So is it likely the M14x R2 will come out in April? If so, will we able to see the specs earlier?
I've never really paid much attention to Alienware before recently, so I don't know their patterns and history. -
id say its gonna be at least 3 months before any specs would be rumored
-
Yeah I wouldnt worry about it much though. The Sandy Bridge processors are crazy powerful AND upgradable, and from the looks the 555M successor will be maybe a 10% increase, which the m14x easily overclocks by like 20%. The r2 wont be a big difference, and of course I cant say for the r3.
My guess is the r3 is when people may actually upgrade their systems (for if NVIDIA follows the same pattern the 7xx series will be a 20-30% increase over the current 5xx series).
In my opinion if someone is looking to get the m14x it wouldnt be THAT worth waiting, but if you can stomach it it never hurts much. -
Yeah, my dad really wants to order one for me now. I guess the only thing I'm afraid of is the new one's going to suddenly get some awesome 1600x900 screen like the Radiance on the HP Envy but then I just tell myself to get real, so I should probably just go ahead and get it

Agreed. Think of the m11x r1. It came out and didnt have a real competitor until this year, the Acer 3830TG (I think thats the right number) with a 13 inch screen and 540m. Took a year and a half for companies to catch up. So if it follows a semi-comparable pattern, you wont even have to worry about it till 2013/2014. Im not upgrading till end of 2015, I think itll make it.
And dont forget to get a banner in your signature when you order it! -
No more thick bezel would be a good start. I want 15" screen in a 14" laptop.
m14x r2 when can we expect it ?
