    Hi everyone,
    I'm on a bit of a budget and I want a new 14x
I can only afford the i7, 750M GPU and 720p screen.
BUT if I could stretch, what should I add......
do I go for the 1080p screen and keep the 750M
    or
keep the 720p screen and go for the 765M???
    thanks for any advice

What is your budget limit? For $1399 you can get a 14 with a 765m and 1080p off Alienware.
You can try to haggle the price. Alienware usually lowers the price when you try.

It would be a bad idea to get the 1080p screen with the 750M. It can barely handle games at 720p, let alone 1080p. The 765M with the 1080p screen is the best option, obviously. I'd try to negotiate with them. You will be surprised how much you can save.

So, is the 750m rubbish then?
I'm playing games like "World of tanks, Skyrim, Skyrim online (when out)" nothing like Battlefield 4.
    thanks

No, not necessarily. At 720p it may actually do fine for a while (1-2 years at Medium settings), but you shouldn't buy it expecting miracles to happen. If you're going to grab an Alienware 14, you should go for the 765M and 1080p screen. I think you'll be disappointed otherwise.

If you're stuck with a budget and you can't negotiate a deal with Alienware, get the 720p screen and the 750M. You'll have decreased performance with the 1080p screen. It won't look as good, but it will perform better with the lower res. screen.

This is a tough decision to make. I suggest waiting and saving up some more money to get what you know you'll love. It's only a few hundred dollars more.

Try sourcing one from the outlet. You still get a one yr warranty and having bought 3 laptops from there I can honestly say I haven't been able to tell that any one of them was refurbed as they were all immaculate when unboxed.

I paid £860 for my alienware 14, spec as below minus the masts sad which I stuck in myself for much less than Dell would've charged.

Honestly, yes. For 720P it's an okay choice when in a $750 laptop like a Y410P, but not for an expensive Alienware.

1080P/GTX765M is the only combo I'd recommend in the Alienware 14. If money is tight, negotiate with Alienware (do that anyways) or look at the Clevo W230ST.

I've played WoT on my Alienware 14 and was able to play at 1080P with medium settings. It averaged 45-60FPS depending on the map with quite a few mods installed. City maps run much better than wilderness maps, but that remains true for any PC.

No that's the m14x R1. Can only manage world of tanks at low res with everything turned off. From memory it was just about playable but think it was only around 22fps oh and that was at 1600x900.

I'd have to echo the comments above and only recommend the alienware 14 with gtx765 and 1080p screen.

Definitely not. That's an older model with a weak GPU.

    No. The 750M is faster.

The GTX765M/720p pairing would perhaps yield the most longevity as well as represent the best value for money.
