what would be a good configuration for REALLY saving power (ie; just for browsing)

how do i use just integrated GPU instead of dedicated?

    how much CPU is enough?

There is no manual override in Optimus to select integrated GPU. You might want to disable flash blocker or something like that. That's the only reason which leads to high spikes in CPU usage. Reducing CPU % wont have much of a difference. Not sure about turning off cores though.

If you really wanted to save battery you could run everything off the IGP, and you could disable two (or three) of the CPU cores, but then why the hell would you buy an M14x?

To disable processor cores (Only if unavailable in BIOS):
Start -> Run -> msconfig -> Boot -> Advanced Options... -> Number of processors.

:( jealous of sereph, one of the few to beat my desktop in power. Maybe just maybe on heavily threaded workloads i can still win!

Useful for folks like me who fly across the country every summer to go home and would like the laptop to last the entire flight, but still be able to game when I get home.

To save battery, reduce your brightness to its lowest setting and start squinting. That will give you the best and max battery you can possibly squeeze out.
