I doubt that'll help. dell only give batteries somewhere between 30 and 90 days warranty. at the end of the day, its a consumable item.

We'd had batteries at work that last 3 years, others that laster 3 months. not a lot you can do!

Lithium-ion battery`s start to wear as soon as they are made, they could have been in storage for months.

Most laptop battery`s i have had at least 3-5% wear which is normal , but should not be higher than 10% in the first year.

You will not see your true battery wear until you empty/calibrate your battery a couple of times, 90% of the time, it will be higher than the initial wear level.

It has not increased from 2% to 5% that quick, it was at least 5% when you bought the laptop, it just takes a couple of empty/calibrate for you to see the true wear level.

eh, well last month hwmonitor said it was 2% i let my battery drop a little low yesterday it now it says 5, still with the amount of heat this laptop produces i wouldn't be surprised if my battery spontaneously combusted one day

Maybe it is just your battery Tyler, mine is okay though. How long have you get that battery? I mean with the laptop.

ive had it since i received my laptop so 2 months give or take a couple weeks, and ive only let it die completely about 3 times and i usually plug it in once it hits 30%, im thinking its either a bad battery, or the heat it degrading it, although most games dont run too hot for me even with my overclock except grid, that game gets hot on stock speeds, or maybe i havent given my laptop enough time to correctly read the battery, either way 5% seems alot for a short time

    hi bud,

letting batteries die completely is one of the worst things you can to reduce longevity as Lithium ion batteries require a charge to be able to function.

Most batteries have a built in reserve to ensure that even though to the device they register as zero, they have in fact a few percent left so they are not totally drained, but this will reserve will be exhausted in a short space of time.

the rule with Lithium batteries, is to keep them top upped up generally.

yea i know but i stopped draining it the second i saw my wear level at 2% and that was about a month ago, and a few days ago i wasent paying attention and my battery dropped to 9% and i immediately plugged it in and ran HWmonitor and it said 5% wear :/ so its as if my battery had lost 3% in one month and i cant understand how

here you can take a look at normal wear level - laptop battery wear level.
a 5% wear level is little high but if you're a really hardcore user its acceptable.

Just contact Dell; it may or may not be under warranty, but no harm in asking. I got an outlet unit and the day I booted it HWMonitor showed a 9% wear level; Dell quickly replaced the battery.

You sure about that? I've let my old MSI GX600 laptop battery run down at least 50 times over the 3+ years that I've owned it. After 3 years, the battery lasts about as long as it always has. This is a replacement battery, the battery it came with lasted about 3 months before it wouldn't hold a charge. From my own experiences I dont think it makes that much of a difference for the first few years. Or in my case, the lifetime of the machine.

My battery was at 5% wear level a month or so I got mine, I assume it's just from them sitting around before they ship it.

I'm starting to get concerned about my m14x battery. I've only had the laptop three weeks and it's already at 13%

I might contact Dell support, as it shouldn't be dropping this quickly and hasn't been used for any gaming yet so hasn't been hot. :(

Have you tried calibrating the battery, run the notebook till it shuts down then boot into the bios and leave it till it turns off again, then remove the battery for an hour so it can cool down, then recharge the battery with the notebook turned off, then re-start the notebook and check the wear level.

Calibration is hard on a battery so it should only be done every 6 months or so as it`s not good for the battery, but it`s the only way to find the true battery wear level, Your battery could die while being calibrated so make sure you still have warranty left.

Some notebooks have an calibration option in the bios, but all it does it wait till the battery gives out.

I'll try that. I ran it flat until Windows shutdown yesterday then fully charged it today, but that didn't help.

It sounds like you have an old or faulty battery, you need to get it replaced.

You will not find out your true wear level until you have done a battery calibrate or two, though frequent calibration can damage/kill the battery and should only be done every 3-6 months.

I have had loads of different laptops and it is extremely rare to get one with 0% wear level, it`s normally between 1-5% , and should be no more that 10% in the first year.

Well I can't really fault Dell - a new battery is being shipped out today after contacting them via e-mail last night :)
