Aren't AW offered SSD's a gigantic rip off in price? Why not grab one off newegg? There was a sale flying around for -10% off I believe (cant' remember where I saw it).

dude, dont get an SSD from AW... it is a ripoff. garuntee'd u can get a cheaper one somewhere. and as i understand it, installing a different HDD does not void the warranty, so ur in the clear. just get a regular HDD and install one yourself.

Yeah, man. What I recommend is bookmarking the "Deals" thread on this forum and checking back frequently. There's often some damn good deals on SSD's going @ 1.20-1.50$/per GB.

This. Also back in Black Friday kingston had a DOLLAR PER GB deal... Kicking myself for not getting in on it.

I tried to order the 256gb SSD but the fact that the sales rep kept dodging my question about a second bracket coming for me to mount an HDD (he originally said installing an HDD would void warranty lol) and the fact that it was over budget even with the absolute maximum he was allowed to discount off of the system made me not buy it.

I'm going to get it and run some tests, boot windows, etc. If they're too slow compared to my old x25-V boot SSD in my desktop I'll buy an 80 or 120 Intel and stick it in :)

OCZ is coming out with their new Vertex 3 soon. SATA 3, 500+ mbs reads, and only a small price premium over the Vertex 2. I'm going cheap on the HDD from Dell, and adding an SSD later.

It's been said before, but: Don't buy that AW P.O.C! Go for an Intel, that's what I'm doing.

Yea, pretty much what everyone said. Get a cheap drive you can get from Dell and buy either the cheapest ssd on the market or wait for the new really fast one that will come out soon. Then install your OS stuff there.

Dell one is overpriced by a lot.

I've heard by people that the only reason to get the SSD from alienware is because they want to utilize the warranty that they get on their SSD drive as well, which in some cases can last longer and is alot faster then using a manufacture warranty

Seriously, do not get the SSD from Dell. It's not the fastest and it's a ripoff. You can save $50 using a dell coupon code, I posted earlier in someone else post. I forgot the link... If you need it PM me.

I strongly recommend a 256GB Vertex 2 for about $400 on amazon or you can get the new Intel SSD which supports the 6GB sata connection which will make your drive awesomely fast...

I am looking at two different intel SSDs and I need a little help. Both at 120 Gb SSDs.

Newegg.com - Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH120G2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

    and

Newegg.com - Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH120A2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I am wondering if the intel 510 series is worth the extra money or just save money and go with the X25-M? My R3 will be mainly for gaming and multimedia. If I get a SSD for the R3 do I need to move the old hard drive to the secondary HDD bay to make my SSD the primary drive? How much of a performance boost does the 510 have over the X25-M?

My Ideal setup would be to have the operating system and games on the SSD and all my media on the 750 GB HDD.

510 will last you a lot longer. I wish I had waited the extra month before picking up an SSD - I would have gone with the 120GB intel 510
