I am wondering exactly what to do here. The machine simply doesn't turn on now. I couldn't turn it back on after engaging this "suspended mode". I didn't mean to turn it on but I just got this thing today about 6 hours ago and was messing with all the little buttons.
The problem remains thus: I cannot turn it back on now. I've done the power purge thing where you take out the battery and hold down the power button for a minute before putting the battery back in and turning it back on. I've tried it with and without the plug and only plugged in as well.![]()
Please help me guys...![]()
If it matters as well, the keyboard didn't light up at all either... regardless of what I did.![]()
Nothing people? I understand it's only been two hours since I posted this... but it's a machine I didn't exactly get for free... >_>
Please guys?
Does anyone have anything I can try to get this thing working?![]()
I've since taken out the battery and unplugged it... The little button on the battery lights up all 5 lights so it has a near full, if not full, charge.

Apart from the usual 'give dell a call', if it's new then they go at it pretty hard since you can simply say take it back!
Couple of things to try before calling.
1. Full reset of the Bios. Remove the back cover (only two screws and easy), you'll see the CMOS cattery. Remove that and then hold down the power button. replace and try again.
2. Remove the HD and see if you get a 'missing operating system' message - clutching at straws!
If you have never seen the keyboard lights from new and now you don't even get a bios screen (or beeping) then you may well have a 'bad' one that finally gave up the ghost.
PS update your sig so we can see what you are working with
Edit:missed the R2 bit in the title, so no dell call... -
You might try sending a message to the person you bought it from and see if they've encountered this before...the other thing might be to open it up and verify that all the cables (power cable, keyboard cable) etc are still attached and didn't come loose in shipping.
Hope you can sort it out, sounds like something is going on.
Good luck! -
Nothing happens at all when I try to turn it on.
If I hold down the little button for the battery it'll show all five lights and then flashes and only shows two lights, which I assume to mean that it has around a 40% charge on the battery.
Also, when it's plugged in, I get no response from the laptop as well. As in, when I first plugged it in when I got it, the alien head thing would light up around the edges and slowly shift colors as it charged and it did that the other day... only to go off after a moment and then nothing.
Did this thing just die on me??? I'm trying it again now... different house too so I know it's not the outlet... >.<
(The guy already refunded the money and is going through a claim with Fedex since it was working when he sent it...) -

, the power circuitry could have crapped out. After a BIOS reset I think you may be looking at forking out some cash for Dell to get involved, but if you got your money back then I assume he wants it back...
Just had a thought, have you tried it on AC only with the battery out? A bad battery could bring it down.
Did you try a full BIOS reset (remove internal battery)? -
(There are physical damages I can show and use that to further the claim on the insurance and since it doesn't work, well, that just adds more to my side of the ordeal and should help us get what we need...)
However, as it sounds, I think I will have to part out this machine... sad... I was looking forward to gaming to hell and back... but I think it just couldn't handle it...It was probably on its last legs anyhow.
BIOS reset? as in, removing the CMOS battery? no I didn't... trying this now... And yes I did just try it with the AC in. Nothing. -
yeah assuming the blue light around the plug is illuminated, then it could very well be a motherboard issue or something else. If you feel comfortable opening it up (and since it sounds like you have nothing to lose at this point). You might check to make sure all the cables are seated correctly and not loose. You could try reseating the components (video cards, cables, etc) to see if that helps.
It sounds like the motherboard might be the issue, not terribly expensive to replace (300 or so), but that money would probably be better spent on a new machine.
Just some thoughts -

Hey Glidin,
Sorry, I misread your OP. I was not aware that it did not turn on PERIOD! I thought it would just not turn on after suspend mode...
Agree with everything that has been said. Assuming the LED at the end of the PSU is on, if a BIOS reset wont fix it then it sounds like it has broke
Nothing to lose but to open her up (after refund has been processed) and see if you can get it working! -
Success!!!!
She lives! It was something small all along!
There's a little cable that had come loose that connected the power button to the rest of the computer.I held the ribbon to the slot and it fired right up like it was nothing. ^_^
I haz mah compy workin' again. Okay... figured it was something pointlessly small... -

I just love a success story! Now for some serious gaming - and probably a few new on questions
-
Nice work Glindin
Did that refund get processed? You may have just scored a free R2
And it would not be fraud in my opinion. Obviously rough handling by the courier company resulted in that cable coming loose.
If you had not taken initiative to fix it, it would still be broken.
It is grey area, I will give it that
