what ID cable from the 240 did you connect to the 330?
You put the ID wire to the wires inside that black cable. I just hooked it around the mass strings so it always touching.

- Bios Error message at start up
- Works better than previously (no shut down)
- but approximately 20 FPS with BF3
With this schema :
http://i44.tinypic.com/2emd46w.jpg
It works better (approximately 50 FPS), but at moment, the FPS down to 15 FPS , and up to 50 FPS,...
What is the issue ? -
before trying throttle stop
1. make sure your performance option are the max for while plugged in
2. restart laptop
BTW disable the PSU Bios warning from the bios if not it will always pop up when you start laptop. -
Thank you, I will try it.
I don't have error message with bios, because I use the ID wire of 240 W.
But, I would like to use only the 330 W... -

Do you guys reckon the 6970 and 6990's will fall in price any time soon in the wake of the 79xx's?
-
What is the schema that you use Stealth55, to use only the 330w psu and don't have any issue ?
-
-
But I don't try with TrottleStop...
Battery and brightness is not an issue for me if don't work
What driver do you use ? Profil CAP ? -
Couple of questions:
1: Has anybody managed to fixed the whole sleep/hibernate issues yet ?
2: Does anybody know where I can get the original vbios for Eurocom 6970M from, i've misplaced by USB stick.
TIA. -
Away on holiday and just caught up with this. Gloops, your multipliers should not be x9!!!!
It seems your laptop is running at low performance....does the multiplier change at all when doing processor intensive tasks?
And those CPU temps.. :| I am surprised you dont get thermal shutdowns!! -
In the picture, the multiplier it's 9 because using Power Saver Option. But in game, the multiplier is 27.
You are reason for the temps, I have down the TDP and TDC because the temps of the processor was 100 °C... -
Hi,
I've upgraded my laptop with x2 6970M in X-Fire and everything works well except I think I am having the sleep / hibernate issues that are mentioned in the tutorials.
Cards used for upgrade are Eurocom Blackcomb XT.
I've flashed the vbios with the bios listed, I believe is the Clevo X7200 version.
The Issue's I'm having are below:
1: When shutting down and then booting up, it only boots half the time the other half I have to drain all power (remove battery, power lead and hold power button)
2: I cannot power up after any form of sleep / hibernate without draining power.
3: If I shut the lid (display turns off) and then reopen the lid (display turns on) the display turns from LCD only to LCD+VGA and the resolution drops to 1600x1200. Can I fix or disable VGA somehow (tried removing / disabling NON-PNP monitor)
TIA -
Glad it is working now100C is a little toasty. Good call on dropping the TDP/TDC
@Wildthing, sorry can't help you as I have different cards. I am sure someone with Eurocom cards can shed some light for you. -
Hi Tia,
Sorry to hear about your problems. Were these same types of things occurring with the Eurocom bios or only after upgrading to the Clevo bios?
When you say you are having shutting down problems, is that only after the laptop sleeps/hibernates? or is that anytime?
Also what drivers are you using? -
Where would be the best place and price to sell my pair of clevo 6990's? They are in perfect working condition but i don't have warranty on them anymore.
-
Hi Stealth,
If I were you I'd post them here on the board. I'd imagine they'd sell fairly quickly. -
Hi guys, just to make sure I'm in a normal situation right now.
Temps are good (max 85degrees on GPUs) while gaming but I still get the following issues I can't seem to resolve - maybe you have some tips
1) The voltage on my cards is currently 1.03V which induces throttling in games like Crysis 2 and BF3 unless I turn down the settings - This is well known and unless I can undervolt more I am stuck with this - undervolting may be responsible for the following issues;
2) Every single time I turn crossfire from on to off or vice versa, the laptop freezes and crashes.
3) Using HWinfo32 after booting up, only the information of the primary card is shown. The name of the secondary card appears but there are no temps, fan speeds...
4) From time to time I get a very high pitch screaching sound from the speakers (I believe).
Thanks,
Mike. -
Hey Mike!
Hopefully I can help
1) Not much more you can do from the card side of things, unless you are overclocked and in that case you can return the clocks to stock and then perhaps further drop your voltages. Otherwise you can use Throttlestop to slightly reduce the power draw of your processor. This may give you GPU's a little more room to move. I know that under clocking the CPU does not actually have that much of an impact on BF3 as I have done so in the past. Other things which you will probably already know about is dropping your brightness, using an external monitor etc etc.
EDIT:: You could also invest in a 330\480 watt PSU setup
2) Strange, you need to determine if this is driver related or under volting related. I would start by returning your voltages to stock and seeing if it does it. If it does, it may be driver related which you can test by trying different drivers. Also, as above, make sure your cards are not overclocked when troubleshooting.
3) This one is easyULPS is disabling your second card when not in use. in the registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\ and search for ULPS. Anything with EnableUlps or EnableUlps_NA, change to 0. There should be about 4 entries. Reboot and this issue should be gone
You will need to do this every time your reinstall drivers.
4) This problem sucks....it affects some people more than others. I also get it if I put my ear right up to my speaker. Nothing you can do really, hopefully it is not too loud.
Have a good one -
you will get slightly less cpu power, but it may help with the throttling if undervolting is not an option.
2. this was happening to me, would mouse freeze and/or blue screen every time. ended up being the driver for me. now using the 12.4 previews without hitch.
about #4, sounds like an emi shielding issue, i wonder if it's possible with cardboard and some tin foil to create your own emi shield to seperate the speakers from the rest of the laptop. -
Im seriously considering dumping my 5870s and 6990s for a set of 7970s. I just hope that there are no fan issues and they work like stock like my 6990s. Otherwise I'll be mad I ever let me 6990s go
Right now I just need to buck up and list my parts so I can get the funds. Even if it means losing out on my warranty. Although I can always grap a pair of 5870's cheaper down the road.
-
Nice DR650!
Will be very interested to see your results if you end up going with the 7970's. As for me, I think I'll wait a bit unless I want to sleep on the couch...since I told my wife when I upgraded to the 6970's that it would hold me over "for awhile". -
Yea, If I can gather the funds through selling my other cards, then I will go for it, but I'm not sure what I should sell them for. Ebay listings have 6990s being sold at $450/ea recently. If I can't sell the cards (5870s/6990s) for enough, I won't do it. It's a gamble for sure. I don't want 7970s with fans at 100% all the time. I suppose if thats the case I can sell them but just wish I had the funds to get the 7970s first. Test, and then if the work, keep em, if not sell. Not sure I may go that route. Depends on how quickly I can get them.
-
-
haha, let me know how that goes wonderpookie
-
Nice wonderpookie!
LOL DR! I was also thinking about how feasible that would beI guess it depends on how expensive the 7970's are
Damn upgrade itch! -
I know. I'm not sure what I should sell the 6990s for. Any suggestions? I wonder if Table21 will take 2x5870M and 2x6990 as a straight trade for 7970s....lol
-
ROFL! If you get an answer, let me know how you go
Mine are ES so I would have to sell for less....not sure. -
7970s are the reason i want to sell my 6990's lol Since a single 7970m>CF6990m. I just want them on my 17x in CF even if it has Fan's at 100% i wouldn't mind using HWinfo for them beast's.
I was offered $200 for 2x5870M shipped to god knows where but i'm going to keep these. I would take anything over $600 shipping on me for my clevo 6990's. -
Yeah the stats are impressive, but I think the single 7970 was about the same as 2 x 6990m's....I wouldn't say it was more powerful.
Still, damn impressive. I read that someone picked one up for 450? -
well if dual 7970s work as well (or better) then the 6990's then this laptop could last even longer. I'm still waiting to see what the M18xR2 looks like, but at this point no reason to get rid of mine.
Plus if the 7970s work and push out some good numbers it might take me even longer.
Very impressed with the R2 -
Hey Douse and Xeroxide. Thanks for the replies. I'll try the 12.4 previews, turn my TDP/TDC down for gaming and restore stock voltages to experiment.
Lowering brightness is such a shame and the PSU upgrade is too much hassle.
I'll also disable ULPS like I used to to overclock the 5870s
Thanks a lot guys!
Edit: Really speaking in regards to upgrading the GPUs in the R2 to 7970s I won't. I love this screen and the assembly of the laptop but I will not modify it anymore. The processor, RAM and Mobo are aging quite rapidly now. Will probably hold off until R4/R5 -
You could defo get dual 7970s then!
-
It was in this thread that a few of us put together two 240 watt power supplies. Aarpcard was the brain child of this experiment
I think it is around page 73 thread, feel free to have a read
Guys, I have a question. With the 7970, I thought it was MXM 3.0c. Aren't our R2's MXM 3.0b?
Wouldn't this pose a problem? Because I am pretty sure the R3 is MXM 3.0c -
Apparently it is MXM3.1 and it is compatible with MXM3.0b (slv7's comment)
-
Ah cool! Thanks
-
you guys should get 7970m crossfire working in there, single scores 5.6k 3dmark11 tess on, crossfire, oh man, would be sweet
-
The 7970m has a MXM 3.0b bracket.
So, it's compatible with the M17x R2.
But we will see if the 7970m is compatible with the M17x R2 chipset... -
Would be nice, but I don't even know where people are getting their cards from!!!

It is crazy that this card is so powerful! Almost makes me want to see more evidence before committing...
-
Yes, I want to see the performances with our R2
-
-
Only a low TDP (<80W) could sell me this card.
My understanding is it's 100W (as shown on the notebookcheck website).
Some reports show lower power draw.
Please post when you spot a definitive answer
