    Hi guys.

1st of all, thank you for reading this.

    this is my laptop spec.

this happened to me last few months when i started experiencing lag and sudden dropping fps in battlefield 3.

this problem went on and now i can barely play team fortress 2 without lag in lowest setting.

so i started doing research about my problem and did some fixing.

i have installed all my Dell drivers and updated them all.
i have flashed my graphic card with latest VBIOS .
i opened my alienware and used compression air to clean the internal area from dust.
i brought new gaming cooling pad for my laptop.
i play in cool room with temperate of 25 degree Celsius all the time.
i have latest ATI driver and crossfire application profile.

now i cant play Borderlands 2 at lowest setting without lag
however, i noticed that, even when i change the graphic setting to highest possible, the lag appear to be the same or a bit more.

sometime when im doing some work (not playing game) the laptop hang.

i have format and re install the OS last week and brought Bitdefender Anti Virus

You did not say what was the temp of the GPU so I'm assuming the temp is in acceptable range. However, playing in a 76F room with a cooling pad =! good temp. If your laptop has bad thermal, it still gets overheat. But it does not seem to be the case here.

What is your GPU usage? It might be GPU throttling...

after getting this issue, i followed the tutorial on youtube to open my laptop and clean it with compressed air to make sure that there is no dust in the cooling system.

but im playing 2007 games ( Half Life 2 EP 2 , TF 2 ) still get lag and sudden drop in fps. Even in Minecraft. i dont belive TF 2 or Minecraft would get GPU jump up and down crazy.

some of my friends saying that i have problem with RAM but i hardly believe it .However, i cant exclude that possible out.

p/s : i strongly believe that the laptop is not overheat

edit: after doing some searching on internet
    i found this :
    Toshiba Qosmio X770-107 lag / gpu-throttling (Battlefield 3) Lösung / Solution - YouTube

i have this same issue when 1st time encounter lagging. but now i can hardly play any game

Hmm GPU throttling is when the GPU downclock to prevent damage. It may be due to high temp or low voltage. I personally think it might be due to low voltage. But I don't have first hand experience on R2 nor 5870M, so don't quote me on this.

If it's a RAM issue, try to run the PSA and see if you get any error. Here is the link

    i ran a test:

result: No Diagnostic Utility partition identified.

so it means that the problem is still with the graphic cards , not RAM or HDD or Processor Chip

I'm on 12.7 Beta with 5870M CF with no issues. Have you considered reinstalling the OS?

Actually, the PSA will double check everything minus your HDD. So no error means your RAM and GPU still run well, in normal condition.

Try to borrow another charger brick and see if you still get the throttling. Also, take a screenshot of the GPU's voltage, temp and PPM during the gaming.

    i have re-installed OS.

it's hard to find someone got charger brick around my area.

i can check GPU temp and PPM but im not sure where to check for GPU voltage

i just install new beta driver for ATI 9.001 and the identity of my card change to 7820 (haizzzz)

this was taken while i play Borderlands 2 in min setting

i notice that the GPU core clock and momory clock of 2nd card always keep at 100 and 150

last time i ask about this issue the Dell support ask me to Falsh my card and i did, after that it work for awhile and still come back to normal

when i re install my driver , do i have to reinstall VBIOS agian ?

Borderlands 2 is one those games that strictly follows "TWIMTBP".

In other words, that stands for "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" and Nvidia's plug-line. :p It was shown that a GTX 460 was matching a 5870 in the game with desktop graphics mind you. o_O So yeah... Crossfired 5870Ms wouldn't be able to handle the game terribly well beyond medium-high settings, and the game might not like Crossfire as much as SLI either...however don't quote me on that. :p
