Greetings to all senior members here..
    i'm just a newbie about using Alienware M17x R3 ..

i wanna upgrade my existing graphic card which is Nvidia GTX 560M 1.5gb Memory..
When i insert a new graphic card and then start to boot up.. the problem is, i got a HANG screen while waiting for option to Boot and Enter BIOS Screen..
it's run just a little loading then HANG.. i close that situation by HOLD power button .. and start back, also the same problem is coming back..

please help me guys..what should i do now ? :(
does Alienware M17x R3 Support with Nvidia GTX 660M or not.. because i wanna return back to my members and take some refund from him.. please help me guys :(

What bios do you have installed? It's weird that your system "hangs" like that.

I'm pretty sure the 660m is NOT a supported card in the R3. Dell only support cards made during the model run and don't do the necessary (bios update?) to make them work. All I can say is that it might be able to work if you try the tricks in the R3 680 thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/672230-m17x-r3-680m-compatability.html It's a 50 page read though - sorry :(

Basically it involves getting an unlocked BIOS and disabling the on-board gpu - assuming you do not have 120hz 3D model? The risk of bricking it IS real though so read up on 'blind flashing an R3'.

    HTH :)

What brand is the card? If it's not a Dell one, then the issue is likely a vBIOS incompatibility. I had a similar hanging issue with installing my Quadro K5000M (definitely not a Dell brand), and had to flash it to a Dell vBIOS. Luckily, I did not have to blind flash it, since a friend had a Sager laptop.

As others have said, you could try flashing to a Dell GTX 660M vBIOS (see here). Make sure to read all blind flashing/flashing guides properly, as flashing an incompatible vBIOS can render your card useless.

You need to remove the card, go into BIOS and Disable to IGPU, then install the card and restart.

Unless you have the 120Hz screen that is.

Edit: Just seen Micky's post. Do what MickyD say's. lol.

looks like a 660m to me. Did you get the card from eurocom? If so, I think you need to use the modded driver. Not sure where to get that file though. :(

you need the correct hardware ID's and I never did get familiar with how to do that. You can check laptop2go.com and see if their driver works, but I would contact whoever you bought your card from and get the modded driver from them.

    welcome aboard!

It's why I always like it when people put their location in their profile ;). Gives me some idea of the delay (as well as better advice when calling to Dell)

Tell all your friends 'The NBR M17x crew are awesome, buy one!' :p
