    Hi,

i have recently bought an M17x R2 with burned Gpu ... In waiting for a new one i have reflow it and TADA i got a screen and i can play game !

Now i am tryning to use the control center to get light , all the light are working but the keyboard don't ...

So i have heard about corrupted firmwire for the alienFx chip ( equal motherboard replacement at dell ... ) , but if the firmwire was defect all the light should'nt work ?

I have double check the ribbon , they are both connected ... The all keyboard doesn't light so , it's an defect keyboard or is something else ?

I am sorry for my englisgh , i try to be understandable.

    Thank you for reading
    Toto 29620.

Yes, if the firmware is defect you would not get any lights at all...

My guess is that the cable is faulty/shorted...

Try to put entire keyboard to white (all leds should light (red, blue and green) if you don't get any colour at all i'd blow some air into the connector to make sure there isn't any dust stopping the lights from working, other than that, you can go ahead and purchase new keyboard (or just the light layer if the keyboard works ok otherwise)....

I have a spare light layer if you'll need.

One more thing, i've noticed in the sig that you're replacing the burned 4870M with a 260M GTX, is that correct?...

Are you aware that the fans don't work auto on that card, because it wasn't intended for R2, but just for R1 and M15x....
Mind you, I've even got the Sli 260M GTX to work on R2, but the fans will always run at 2500rpm unless you control the with HWinfo or similar software.

The 4870M would give you performance far beyond the 260M and 5870M is as powerfull as 260M SLI, so i can't say i really reccomend you the replacement.

Hi thank you for the answer, it's a very good new for me , i ws already thinking of desoldering chip and programming :D

For the Gtx 260m , yes i am aware of this i will make an profile for the fan with hwinfos , i have chose them because i can get one for free by a friend for some times , i can't buy now HD 7970 so i will wait a bit with the 260, i keep my 4870m installed as long as possible but i have reflow a lot of ps3 and Xbox , the heat gun process isn't reliable in time, the gpu fail again a week after generally...

I didn't know that we can buy only the light layer , i will do the test tonight and i see.

So , i have tested it by getting all setting to white , nothing ...

After that i had unscrew it and open the keyboard to see if the ribbon was broken inside the keyboard , nothing special ...

I decide to plug all and test the things without screw , power on : nothing ... i move it a little and TADA the light come ! So i have tu put the ribbon in the oposite side of OEM to keep the eletrical contact , it seem that the ribbon connector it's a bit old and have some dificulty to hold it correctly .

When i see the general aspect of this computer i understand why ... the last owner has bend a side , a lot of screw are destroyed , the mem chip on video card wasn't in contact with heatsink ... It was an engineer so i was especting a pretty good internal condition ...

    Anyway it works !

I don't know how it work on this forum , i have just to write + rep ?
