Hi guys,
I have:
M17x R4: Intel Core i7-3820QM / 256GB Plextor M5 Pro / 1 TB 5400 rpm HDD / 32GB mSATA Cache / 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM(4x4GB) / GTX 675M 2GB / 120Hz / Stealth Black with Soft Touch Finish
I'm looking to upgrade my video card, is it advisable now? What card should be the recommended upgrade? I'm doing this because it's too expensive for me to get a newer laptop, so I was thinking of only upgrading the video card.
Can anyone point me to a seller which ships internationally? I'm located in asia.
Should I get a gtx680m or the newer gtx780m? I'm just a beginner on upgrading so I hope this is just plug-and-play. no soldering needed. LOL.
Will there be a reasonable performance difference if I did an upgrade? I'm looking to play triple-A games on high-ultra settings.![]()
Thanks in advance!

I got a lot of help and info RE: the cards, and have now selected to go for an upgrade of the 680m in my M17XR4 -

If you can get a 680M for fairly cheap they can offer huge amount of performance stock and tweaked.

680m might be worth it (maybe 10-20% increase maybe more I guess) its the best 'official' upgrade, the 780m will break your 3D. The 680m is essentially plug and play. I'd personally save the money and wait for a next generation or the one after that.

Thanks guys for the replies.

They usually come out during the second quarter of the year (April, May or June). Maxwell was delayed, so I don't think the 880M is going to be Maxwell, but we still don't know. It may be a while before you can get your hands on an 880M, even if they are available in new computers between April and June.
You're probably better off grabbing a 680M, it'll be half the price of the 880M. But if you can find a 780M for a decent price, go for it. -

Only cards sold by dell with the model will be mostly plug-&play, so that's the price you pay when the next technology hits.

Make an offer on this one for like $369 or something, you may get it!

They have a 30 day return policy, too. Go for it. This is a good chance to get a beast card for a low price. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
680M is a much better value, offering you 80-90% of what a 780M has. 675M is just a rebranded 580M that's slightly overclocked, it'll still play alot of games, but you'll have to start turning stuff down.

For turning stuff down, yes I do but mostly those settings that cripple a card with subtle graphic improvements like AO, lower AA, or even drop the res down (1600x900). I cant see any difference myself when I do this. Probably because the games are designed at 720 in the first place?
[M17xR4] is it worth it to upgrade now from GTX675M to higher cards?
