Over the last week or two. My laptop has quickly deteriorated. What I mean by this is it's become rather choppy.

My youtube will freeze up on a daily basis (1-2 times an hour) and games I originally played (BF3 - almost unplayable now) and Dota 2 / GW 2 are on the decline with it.

WoW I went from 60-70 FPS to about 10-20.

I keep my laptop on a cooling pad, and make sure the fans are free of dust. I've tried uninstalling the movies and games I don't use to free up space.

I've ran my anti-virus and it found nothing on a full-system scan.

I would reformat, but I lost my Alienware Recovery Disk.

What can I do? Or if anyone knows whats wrong it'd be appreciated.

    First off...calm down!

Post your system specs so we all here know what we're dealing with. And download HWinfo so you can check your driver & firmware versions, as well as temps.

On top of doing a virus scan be sure to run Malware Bytes and Superantispyware free edition. They will often find things a virus scanner won't. It does sound like an overheating and throttling problem but we will need to see your temps to be sure.

we we're wanting to look at the temperature tab, once you have HWinfo open, press the sensors button and a bunch of temperatures should come up, the ones we're interested in are the CPU and the GPU. with this tab open play a game until you see this FPS loss/throttling then check the temperatures and take a screenshot for us

You can run benchmarks for the CPU and GPU while the sensors tab is open. Here's a more detailed explanation on how to check for overheating.

    Hopefully this helps.

I'm running Malware + Spyware + downloading drivers. But I also opened up Guild Wars 2 which I run on high settings.

    http://i.imgur.com/VgQgC.jpg

I don't know what's considered over heating. I know my desktop does run a lot cooler in the 30-40 range while Idle, and 50-60 when playing a game.

    Ran malware + the spyware.

    http://i.imgur.com/pcnWt.jpg

    6 Malwares found

and 400 spyware. 2 Bad spywares apparently (threats) and then like 398 cookie adwares.

Updating all my drivers, I'll let you know if I'm still having the same problems.

Also - I posted my Temps on my post above.

Ran into another problem. I had a windows update, and now my sound isn't working. I would do a system restore, but it doesn't have any dates prior to today..

And I'm still getting lag issues on just browsing, and gaming.

thats what i was trying to get at luis, i just didn't word it well ;)

your temps are alright although a repaste is recommended, dang you have alot of viruses. After your done running malware+spyware download avast and comodo firewall both free and top range antivirus tools.
as for your sound, you probably just need the right driver

    Dioxy,
For your sound driver Visit the dell website and use the search for drivers and enter your service tag number (assuming they have audio drivers) If not i'm sure someone else on this site owns an R3 with the same sound card/software so you can get the info for the software drivers from them.

As for your Stuttering issues and Etc... Do you ever sweep the registry for errors (ASO: Advance System Optimizer is my drug of choice for registry sweeps).

Those temps are nothing concerning the be honest and i'm 99% sure that has nothing to do with it.

Right click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen, and select play back devices, open a youtube video with audio and play it. Under those playback devices are there any green bars showing sound.

If not go into device manager and check the sound device. If there is IDT showing as the driver then it is installed, but make sure it states in properties that it shows the device as working properly, you can also try and updating driver from that same tab as well.

Ok so I reset my laptop too factory settings using Alienrespawn..

And my sound is still not working. I have no idea what I did.. Green bars do show up so my system detects it, but I hear nohing coming out. (It's not muted, and it says device is running properly).

I'm assuming the device that is showing the sound is the one that is set to "default device" and you don't have mute enabled... You can also play with the default sound devices by changing which one is the "default device."

Gotta make sure the AMD HDMI output is set to 'default' under the "playback" tab in the sound control panel...not the IDT control panel. If the AMD HDMI output shows up under the list of sound devices in the playback tab, then the AMD HD Audio Driver is installed, and the system is detecting the HDMI cable plugged in and able to transmit sound. You are correct, if the green bars show up under the HDMI out icon when sound is playing, then the audio is set to that and the mute is off. The only other things I can think of are:

    1) the audio/video file(s) you are trying to play don't have the correct audio codecs to process the sound;

    2) something it is goofy with your TV

    3) this is only a last resort...shell32.dll or system32.dll are corrupted, or if you're like me and modified them to include new looking icons into windows and didn't save and/or copy & paste them correctly, that will screw up the sound. I speak from personal experience.

    1) I've got the correct codecs.

    2) And what do you mean goofy with my tv?

    3) If it happens to be that, what can I do to fix it?

Sound is playing and it notices it. I hear nothing.

My Sony Bravia has never had issue with audio over HDMI. But the Vizio in my living room, its like if it doesn't detect the HDCP handshake it won't want to play either the audio or the video even though my PC doesn't use HDCP. I think some of the HDTV manufacturers are now locking the HDMI ports so they ONLY play HDCP content. I get around this by unplugging then replugging the HDMI cable once or twice and it all magically fixes itself.

Call dell, I don't think you have the proper default device configured, they will walk you through it.

Also where did I miss the tv part being a problem.

Did you get it fixed Dioxy? I was about to start a new thread about my alienware m17x r3 with ATI Raedon HD 6970m with the exact same problem, my games started running slow LoL having video lag spikes, WoW went from 60-70 fps to 10-20 , i even ran 3d mark 6 and it didnt go beyond 22 fps when i'm sure it did go above 80 the last time i ran it. my computer is always cooling and i also made sure the fans dont have dust anywhere; when i turn it on the next day everything is still unplayable even when the laptop is all cool.

Edit: Hell, i even get better results using the integrated grapics card (my laptop has switchable graphics)

I really doubt its a malware or virus, i have ESET NOD32 5 premium running on my laptop.

i'm not sure about your sound problem but i'm sure i'm also having the same video issues and also lost the recovery dvd.

Yes I fixed it. I went ahead and reformatted. And I'm sitting at 65-70 FPS in org right now. Expecting it to drop to 55-65 when I get my addons. And GW2 is running flawlessly now.

Sounds working to now. I do have to say, I'm more excited to build my computer and only use this laptop for when friends want to game, or I take it to class and do homework on it.

Good to hear that, i also fixed mine, The problem was a corrupt file in the video card drivers. How do i know? It was very vague, i told a friend of my problem and he said that the same happened to him with a nvidia video card and he got it fixed by completely removing the drivers and all files from it, i was so desperate and already tried so many stuff that after some research i found how to uninstall a driver and then cleanup all the file residues from the uninstallation of the ATI drivers and then i installed the video drivers from dell, it worked and it was very smooth, maybe even better than before.

So if it happens to you again remember this and it mgiht save you some time and effort.
