Not legally as far as I know. The OEM M$ licence lives and dies on the hardware it is supplied with. He can always go back and remember that if he still has warranty they might want win 7 back to troubleshoot :(

Lives and dies on the hardware? OEM confuses me a lot. Lets say i bought an OEM install disk and install it on my Desktop and decided to upgrade the motherboard or any hardware specific, you mean i will lost the windows license with that?

No but it (MS) can get in your face about the hardware having major changes. The original purchaser always has ownership of the OS license on that machine, and can sell it on as licensed.

I had it happen once quite a while back and I got a number to call, automated line took me through some painful numbers entry and gave me a new code.

MS are always trying to come up with a way to securely sell a cheaper bulk license to the OEM's without ending up with multiple copies around, and Win 8 will be different again I'm sure, I haven't looked into it :(

Might be straightforward but not something for discussion here ;)

I believe it can't be used. It would be good to ask on the Windows 7 Forums.
