Hi all. I can't connect to my network by either lan or wifi. I have tried some basic things and some advanced (described below).

Story: I recently upgraded my R1 to W8 and successfully was able to install all drivers including nvidia drivers. Everything was running fine for just over a week. On tuesday I was donwloading some files when all of a sudden it crashed. On restart it wouldnt pass the boot screen. I unplugged my external harddrive and was able to reboot with success. I dont know why the external hard drive would interrupt the boot since it never did before. Once everything was back n running I noticed a triangle on the network icon. Didnt think much of it but was not able to connect to internet at all.

    Things I've tried:
    1. Reset router an modem numerous times.
    2. Verified with my ISP that modem was online receiving internet and had no blocks.
    3. Connected modem directly to laptop, no success.
    4. Using Windows troubleshoot: Problem 1, unable to idintify network = fixed , then problem 2 it would say unable to connect with DNS server.
    5. Using CMD propt: Tried ping of any website = failed.
    6. Using CMD: Tried "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" but no luck.
    7. As a last resort, I recovered an image from 3 days prior since everything had been working fine until the crash. Recover was successful however network connectivity was not. That leads be to believe that the harware is still good.

Side notes: Modem is working because I still get cable throught it on my tv. I dont believe the router is bad.

Please help. I dont know what else to try. I can provide
Whatever is needed to troubleshoot this problem. Any recommendations are welcomed.

Can you use the lan if you remove your wireless card from the system?

Hello, Projekt1, can you do the following and let us know the result:

    - Go to Device Manager
    - Expand Network Adapters
    - Double click NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter
    - Navigate to the Advanced tab and disable Device sleep on disconnect.

Or you could simply uninstall the nVIDIA Ethernet driver if you installed the chipset driver from Dell by choosing to uninstall nVIDIA drivers in Programs and Features.
    - Double click nVIDIA drivers and when the Removed NVIDIA Components window displays, click the radio button next to Remove only the following and choose to remove only NVIDIA Ethernet Diver Components.
    - Reboot and let windows install a generic driver.

Couldnt find my particular probkem on there. Using mobile as main sourve of internet is not that great.

Uninstalled the nvidia ethernet driver but problem persists, no change at all. Drivers under network are Broadcom, Microsoft Kernel and Nvidia nForce networking Controller (nForce installs itself after reboot).
    Please help

Does it connect but have no connectivity? As in it says its connected in windows 8 taskbar but has yellow triangle? Have you tried using google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

All that happens on both wired and wireless? Try DDDeniZZZ suggestion to change the DNS. Does it happen with another computer also?

Exactly. The yellow triangle is on on the LAN connection so it automatically connects to WiFi. Stays connected just like normal.

I do not know how to change DNS servers. I love learning though.

The trinagle is not present on the WiFi connection only present on LAN. Dont have anyther computer to try but on cell phone's, it connects to WiFi but again no internet.

In this case, disable the automatic driver installation. Follow these steps for Windows 8:

    - Right click Computer and choose Properties.
    - Click on Advanced system settings.
    - Click on the Hardware tab.
    - Click on Device Installation Settings button.
    - In the Device Installation Settings window choose No, let me choose what to do.
    - Once you select No, let me choose what to do, you'll be presented with three options. Choose Never install driver software from Windows Update.
    - Click the Save changes button.
    - Click the Ok button in the System properties window to exit.

Delete the R273039 folder in C:\dell\drivers\ so windows won't find the driver anymore.

Now go back to Device manager and develop Network Adapters.
Right click NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter and choose Uninstall.
Reboot and windows should now load a generic driver.

Thanks for the help katalin. However the problem is still present. The nvidia nforce ethernet driver had already been removed so the nvidia nforce networking controller driver seems to be the windows default since it keep loading itself even after I uninstall it.

More suggestions please people.. this is getting to be aggravating now.

    Thank you

    Update:
I found an old modem (Motorola SB5120) so I had it activated by my ISP. I borrowed a buddy's old laptop (Toshiba Sat from 06 lol) and it is working with the new (old) modem, however my R1 still wont work.

Edit: Yup, router still works. Using it with my budies laptop and cell phones.

Unfortunately, I don't know whats up with my R1 but it just doesn't want to connect to the internet by LAN (modem or router) or WiFi.

Update: My last resort was to do a Windows 8 "Refresh". I am now able to connect to my networks normally.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

No problem, I appreciate the help anyways.

I do have one problem now after installing the nVidia drivers. Still has to do with my network, WiFi specifically this time, so I think its ok to continue with this thread.

After the Refresh but before the nVidia drivers install I was able to connect through WiFI and stay connected no problem. Now after the drivers install, if I pull the LAN cable my WiFi will stay connected for maybe 15 - 30 seconds then disconnect. My network will still be displayed through the WiFi but not automatically connect. If I hit connect on my WiFi network (again LAN disconnected) it will say not available then have the red "x" on my WiFi icon in the task bar.

I'm glad I can even connect through LAN but would like to figure out my WiFi issue with nVidia drivers.

Edit: Oh yea and had 1 freeze to where I had to force shutdown since I installed the drivers. It happened while I was typing that ^ up disconnected from LAN so no WiFi

"Never install driver software from Windows Update" was already selected from last time I followed these steps. The folder was deleted and Ethernet adapter already uninstalled as well.

The generic driver is already installed. "nvidia nforce networking controller" driver seems to be the windows default.

    Ok, how about this option:

    - Go to Device Manager
    - Expand Network Adapters
    - Double click NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter
    - Navigate to the Advanced tab and disable Device sleep on disconnect.

After I uninstalled the nvidia enforce 10/100/1000 Ethernet driver (last week) this one is the default driver that windows loads

If you right click it (NVidia nForce Networking Controller) and choose Properties, is there a tab labelled Advanced?
