(For owners of AMD cards who want to keep the official 11.9 drivers)

So, you want to play Rage but you don't want to mess with beta or unofficial drivers? Do this:

Place atioglxx.dll from the 11.10 preview Rage driver into Rage’s folder. (Wherever rage.exe is located)

    no texture issues, solid 60fps

    http://www.kn00tcn.net/kn-atiogl-11.10p2.rar

This will also work for BF3

Place the files into the same folder where bf3.exe is located

i started this thread because there were many people asking about Rage/BF3 AMD preview drivers but were having issues installing them. This way you can have your cake and eat it too!

I'm glad it has helped some of you :)

    Hi,

Is this supposed to keep a constant 60 FPS throughout the game? I do see a small increase in performance after placing atioglxx.dll into the Rage folder, however i still drop to 24 fps while driving. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? thank you and have a nice day!

P.S. My Rig is in my sig, help would be much appreciated

    Thank you very much

Well I'm not getting any drops as far as I can tell (only about 2 hours into the game though)

I'm running a 6990 OC'd so im not sure how much if at all a benefit it is...

this is suppose to keep things fast...but the game will run as good as your hardware will allow. Its very possible that crossfire support isn't the best yet.

its a huge benefit. If you're running the 11.9s, the game is very choppy without these rage performance enhancements

You know what would be better then copying some random file into the directories of various games? If ATI would just release the final version 11.10 drivers with all this crap fixed. I want to get battlefield 3...but I want it to run as best it can!

All I can say is I am going to the Midnight opening for Skyrim and installing that stuff as soon as I get home so whatever drivers I have installed better be ready for it right away...cause I want my skyrim experience untainted by driver issues!!

Anyone know when Crossfire is supposed to get up and running in Rage? Or alternately, anyone heard if Skyrim will support Crossfire at release (many other Bethesda games have required fixes to get crossfire running...)?

    no...

    find where you installed bf3..

Copy atioglxx.dll from the link (or from 11.10 preview drivers) into the folder where bf3.exe is

    Enjoy the game!

only OpenGL base game like Rage need to do this ... the same work with some openGL software like Blender.

mm..i think battlefield 3 don't need this trick..
just wait : Official Catalyst 11.10 release is coming next Monday (Oct 31)
    Twitter

for now just install the best driver you have that worked with BF3 only and leave the dll in Syswow64 alone.. don't touch it.
then cut/move the downloaded Atioglxx.dll into Rage root folder.
now both game will run just fine.

I'd like to update my drivers to the latest so that I can run bf3 at the highest fps possible. I'd also like to keep the switchable graphics if at all possible. Currently im maxing out at 45 fps. I'm not sure if that's my max or not but I feel that I'm having some latency issues. Either that or everyone but me is a skilled marksman and kills me with a head shot every time. I hear one shot then I'm dead. I'm pretty sure I'm not running Dells drivers, but i'm not 100%. Here are my specs:

    M17xR3
    2760QM CPU
    16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M
    256GB SSD

    Thanks!

ok, first thing you have to do is see what driver you are running.

The easiest way to do this is to go into your Device Manager, click on Display Adapter, right click on the display adapter and choose "properties"...click on display adapter properties

Alternatively, another method is to download GPUz and run it

ok, you're running driver version 11.5 which is very old. The fix mentioned on this thread will boost your performance by a large margin.

Alternatively, you can download 12.2 official from AMD

So I followed your instructions and placed atioglxx.dll in the folder where bf3.exe is located. This didn't replace any files, it was just added. is that correct? For some reason I assumed it would replace an existing atioglxx.dll file.

Anyway after that I was still getting 45 FPS max while playing multiplayer on bf3. I can only get it to play in the mid 50's if I configure it as follows:

    vsync: On
    Steroscopic 3d: off
    Antialiasing deferred: Off
    Antialiasing Post: Off
    Motion Blur: Off
    Antisoctropic Filter: 1x
    Ambient Occlusion: Hbad

    Everything else is on Low

    I'm running 1920x1080 @ 60Hz on a 27 inch monitor via HDMI

I also tried opening up some router ports as I read that might help.

I'll try to update driver to 12.2 tonight.

Any other suggestions? I read somewhere about changing settings in BIOS?
Also, do you think overclocking would help? If so would it damage the GPU?

I'd just like to play at or above 60 fps without having to turn everything off and to low in settings.

    Thanks

I've updated to 12.2 with no improvement. I also created a user.cfg file containing the following:

    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 256
    RenderDevice.TrippleBufferingEnable 0
    RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
    Render.DrawFps 1
    WorldRender.FxaaEnable 0
    WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0
    RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 0
    PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0
    Render.DeviceVSyncEnable 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0

I guess topping out at 45 FPS is all I can get.

jwim, is your 6990m overclocked? That may be the only way to get you closer to your goal or drop down to 1600x900

It is not overclocked. I was going to try to so I download Trixx but didn't do anything with it as I'm not sure how to even start the oc'ing process. I did try dropping the resolution with no success, but my battery was also charging so I can't be certain if it worked or not. I didn't seem as fluid as 1920 though.

    Download trixx...

    Set:

    GPU to 800
    VRAM to 1175

    then Save.

Thats it. Those numbers are conservative. I'd keep an eye on your temps though with something like HWINFO64. If you plan on overclocking over the longterm, you really have to start to think about repasting the 6990, but at least keep the back of your laptop slightly raised as that will drop your temps ~7c. A repaste will drop your temps around another 10c

If you want to go higher, we have members here who have gone as high as 860 core. You don't really have to raise the memory over 1175 because there's tons of bandwidth already. I've gone as high as 1250 on my memory without issues.

Even with this conservative overclock, you will have a noticeable difference in your gameplay at 1080p

There are many ways to see your clock speeds. The easiest is to run GPUz or HWINFO64 will also tell you your clock speeds...and if you want to confirm performance numbers, run a 3dmark run before and after the overclock.

The U3 will drop your temps ~7-8 but still keep an eye on your temps if you want to overclock to make sure you're ok.

Will do. Thanks for all of the help. I just read your guide to swapping cpu's, I assume cleaning / applying new paste to the gpu would be similar?

I'll let you know if it (overclocking) helped in a day or two. Thanks again

Ya, applying paste is done exactly the same way on the gpu, but on the otherside of the laptop. The 6990m is square so you just have to put a dab of paste in the middle and let the heatsink pressure spread the paste out.

if you have 15mins of spare time, its a worthy investment

Your numbers look like your system is performing in the ballpark :)

Ran out of memory??? And it doesn't do this when you run it at stock speeds?
What are your temps like? If something freezes, its normally heat related

Well the first time I tried to test with 800/1175 and hwinfo64 it locked up. Then I just ran trixx and used the temp on there. It was 68c when it froze. I had to hard reboot to get out of it.

Im not sure if it matters but im running 2 monitors. My laptop screen will usually have internet explorer open with any gadgets and my 27 inch connected via hdmi will have bf3 running
