Is it compatible? Has driver that can support it yet on R3? How was it? Thank you!

You might as well just ask if anyone have 7970M installed on R3...

    Sorry forgot my post.
    Thank you for the respond.
Just seem weird, last year there was people posting about 7970m as upgrade.
May be just because the performance gap between 7970m and 6990m is much larger compare to 8970m to 7970m.
And people not interested into it.

I have it installed on my r3. It works like a dream with the default drivers from amd.com. However, my VGA output and HDMI input are not working, as I believe that requires custom drivers from Dell. Overall, I am pretty happy with it. Enough power to put my desktop GTX 580 to shame (but only because its paired with an AMD chip), otherwise it'd be neck and neck.

Did you get the 2gb or the 4gb 8970? Where did you get it from?

Are you using 13.8 beta, 13.10 beta?

Thanks for informing us all of your results!

hello I am looking at the 8970M as well, you have it installed? Have you been able to fix the HDMI and VGA issue. I use all three ports to run three 27 inch screens as one. Please let me know as I want to upgrade my video card from the 6870M.

    Thanks

I believe it must have been the 2Gb version.

Previous versions with 4GB haven't worked. No idea on this one though, just a lucky guess.

Do you mean the 7970m with 4gb? I have heard next to nothing about the 8970s with Alienwares. Basically one person in this thread and svl7 with one in his M15x (his has 4gb).

I'm really interested because I have 4gb coming to me in the next week or two...

4gb working in R3 with the right bios. No Enduro or switching though.

Just want to warn everyone about the brightness issues. I installed this card over the weekend and it worked brilliantly. Only problem is that without the intel card the backlight intensity is horrible. It won't get brighter than about 50% of what you're used to with the switchable graphics.

I used the A12 BIOS from dell. not unlocked but I'm not keen on overclocking anyway. Works fine.

Had to download the driver for the MSI GX70 to get the 8970 installed. after that I could use the 13-12 driver from AMD.
