Hey guys, Long time no post![]()
I have been on a mission this past year. That is to move from a Laptop to a Desktop...
I have done so successfully. i7-950, GTX 570, the list goes on and on, but I have one thing that I have failed to recreate that I have enjoyed on my M17x for over a year. The R G B LED with 1920X1200 resolution: Amazing...I am still in love with this screen, unfortunately, I have had trouble finding a replacement monitor for this.... Does anyone have any deep specifications for the actual monitor on it the M17x R2?
TL;DR
Need to know how I can recreate the RGB 1200P M17x experience onto a desktop monitor lol...
Looking for something in the 21-25" size range (can be 1920X1080 btw)
Thanks NBR

Its 1920x1200, 24", has RGB and sRGB preset modes amongst other presets (they include one for gaming too...) and I am blown away by its colour etc.
Dell do a 27" version and a 30" version too, depending on how big you wanna go. The bigger versions have an even higher resolution - 2560x1440 and 2560x1600 respectively.
They arent cheap but then again, you get what you pay for, dont you? -
A bit out of my budget, but it's always good to hear that you have found something just a good =)...
How does the Color and brightness compare? I mean is there a significant difference? I just can't believe that they could fit the brightness that the RGBLED that the m17x packs into a LCD? Also do you think the 23" @ 1920X1080 would suffice? More in my price range ;P

Colour wise, absolutely brilliant. I am sure they can be calibrated to achieve even better results from those achieved "out of box" but i dont have a calibration tool (such as Spyder 3 Pro) as they are, I feel, alot of money if you arent doing photo-critical work....I calibrate mine according to my own visual preference - it may not be to the very high photo quality standards that a professional photographer would require, but it sure looks amazing to me.
I did look at the U2311 (i think thats the 23" one you mean?) and its a good monitor. good res and brightness of 300cd/m2 so not quite as bright as the U2410
I would imagine that it would look better than the OptX Alienware displays which are TN panels and not IPS panels (IPS = In plane switching, TN = Twisted nematic) - most standard panels are TN, the U2311 does have an IPS panel so it should be very good at displaying colours more accurately than a TN panel as IPS are more high quality "photo-work" panels.
I would say if you are looking at round the $300 mark (Dell US price for U2311) then that would be a great monitor choice.
The primary reasons I went with the U2410 were that the resolution is the same as the R2 and aslo the RGB factor - its not an LED panel but man, the images just POP out at you.
But, budget wise, I dont think you could go far wrong with any Ultrasharp....great monitors. -
Awesome! Thanks so much for your help..
Just one last thing. Does anyone have the actual specifications of the M17x-r2 RGB LED
IE Response time, TN/IPS/MVA, Brightness cd/m2, Display colors, Contrast Ratio? -

Ronen,
You've heard it all from Steve already, but I have the 27" Ultra-Sharp IPS screen just as he mentions (he turned me on to them), and you can't beat it with a stick! Pricey, sure somewhat, but the Dell Ultra-Sharp IPS screens will change your thinking about external monitors in a good way. The response time is near the same as that of the built-in LED screen, but not as fast as some TN panels. I don't know the numerical particulars though. -
