11.11 and 11.11a drivers horrible bsod, somewhat a workaround for now

So i'm sure some of you have tried installing 11.11 and the new performance 11.11a drivers, only to get bsod. Luckily marthand at guru.com has posted updated drivers that work great with our 5870 cf cards. Crysis 2 and BF3 both run great. Skyrim seems to run a little better also just as long as you disable one card. Hopefully they come out with new drivers soon that get cf working right. But for now these drivers work very well. Not sure what is going on with the official drivers but for now you can download these over at AMD Catalyst 8.93 (Nov. 18) - Guru3D.com Forums.

The only thing is in the performance driver, crossfire is somewhat better in rage, but theres a easy fix, go here AMD Catalyst 8.93 (Nov. 18) - Page 6 - Guru3D.com Forums, which is page 6 scroll down a little, and you can download the opengl driver from Syncore's post which is the performance opengl driver and place that in the rage folder to get crossfire working, though i'm getting at most 75 percent gpu usage from both cards but it does seem to give me higher fps then a single card.

Be sure to thank marthand if you like the driver, for i sure do at the moment being amd's official drivers are a no go for us at the moment.

the 11.11a betas are giving 2-7% increase in Skyrim performance for single GPU so it may be worth a try.

Thanks for posting those drivers dude!

Just an FYI, I installed the 11.11a's this morning and it installed fine for me. No Bsods. I'll see if it really helps with Skyrim tonight when i get home

Driver installed without issues on my R2 finally

I'm going to test'em right now

Edit: Rage seems to be finally fixed, i'm running the drivers without caps. Both cards get utilized, game is smooth as it could be.

BF3 is smooth and both cards are utilized. Doesn't seems to fix skyrim but i haven't tried extensively yet... downloading swtor beta and Batman:AC right now... and Serious Sam is just out on steam too :D

After installing 11.11a all was fine but as soon as I entered Skyrim BOOM BOSD. Any other game I was only running on one card, not good. Rolled back to 11.11 So there must be some issues out there, I will wait till they get a real fix as its still playable.

I BSOD'd immediately once I installed 11.11a. Was able to install 11.11 without a hitch, but BSOD'd immediately with the upgrade.

Doing a full restore now (which I just backed up about a week ago). I wonder if AMD is aware of all the problems that this is causing.

Yep, gonna wait till AMD gets this driver install figured out. BSOD for 11a and 11. Stuck on 11.9 because I can't get a download link for 11.10 (which I loved those drivers, but they are lost now).

    Thanks ElGranCachudo!

After the 11.11a drivers, I kept BSOD'ing. Even after clearing out the 11.11a's, 11.10's and 11.9's would also then BSOD for me!

These modded drivers saved my system :)

Skyrim still runs like crap though, BF3 IS better... until it starts to stutter :(... but the inbetween stuttering moments run much better.

ANYWAY - much thanks to you and marthand, and the community here in general /thumbsup.

I need 5870HD 11.10 M17x-R2 drivers.....or do they work for all AMD Radeon HD Mobility cards?

They work for most Radeon cards; the Release Notes identify specifically which ones. They will work fine for your cards.

Ok, thanks. My 11.9 drivers always had artifacts and flickering issues. I remember when I first upgraded to 11.10 most of that went away and my performance went up in most games. Crysis 2 included.

Since everything seems to be working fine for me, I dont think I will upgrade from 11.10 yet. So does anyone have an ETA for official 11.11 drivers that actually work on our m17x's? That would be nice AMD...

yeah....11.10 work just dandy with my 6970M, ALTHOUGH, i am to get the 6990M in a new replacement....and shudder to think what would happen if i were to upgrade that....

just wondering, that if i were to migrate my SSD and thr 750GB i have in my existing 2720qm and 6970m to the 2760qm and 6990M, is their any forseeable problem....reason is ...yup...the AMD 11.10's

OK it's been several months I recently gave my R3 system to my younger brother to use and I reformated the system for him and I'm unsure which set of drivers to use, the latest drivers appear to give me strange problems when trying to switch from ATI to Intel Power Saving. Did I mess up the order in which I installed these drivers? Or what? Currently using 11.10 with my GPU switching ability removed, currently not working....

apparently AMD says that bethdesta has to Fix crossfire for skyrim ....
Anyway, installed 11.11 yesterday because my skyrim performance sucked and i hoped it would help and boom, BSOD.
I hope these drivers save my system, as i have no backup :(
Those morons at AMD should have pulled the drivers from the site or at least post a warning since they are aware of the problem ...

I agree completely as I walked blindly into this driver bsod bull just last night........luckily I was able to get in on safe mode and use a restore point from the night before.

I am considering trying it again using the 11.11a version......but dont want to deal with that bs again.

Alright I'd rather post here instead of creating a completely new thread, however. I just re-installed Windows 7 on my R3 system (Phantom Service Pack Issues) No Video Drivers have yet to be installed. I'd imagine I will install the intel drivers first. However Which drivers do I use for the 6970, fresh install? NO, the 11.11 off of AMD's website WILL NOT WORK out of the box.... tried that 3 days ago with no luck.

Note: I want to be able to switch between the intel and amd's on the fly/go.

This is quite appalling, atm I understand that my R3 system plays BF3 better then my R2 system. Mainly because of driver issues. I mean a 6970 > xfire 5870....

Seriously, I would stick with the 11.10 drivers until we have confirmation that the 11.11 drivers are definately fixed for our systems. I hope this happens soon...and I hope that this doesnt become an ongoing problem preventing us from upgrading to 11.12 etc.

I have a M17X with 2 Radeon Mobility 5870. Installing 11.10 was no problem. I was not aware of 11.11, so did not install it. Installing 11.11a or even 11.11b cause BSOD every time. It frustrates me that some people can install it without trouble, and yet I am in such a bind. My M17x is barely 9 months old, so what could be the problem?

I'm hoping that 11.12 will fix the problem introduced by 11.11.

I'm with ya! Everytime I have tried to install drivers 11.11 my computer would BSOD right before the login screen. Is this where people are having the BSOD or is it all over the road? I'm guessing I will stick with 11.10 until the issue is resolved.

BTW, I have tried un-installing all driver software, using driver sweeper, as well as a full clean windows install and it still didnt fix the problem. So it must be a hardware issue. :confused2:

wow I'm now stuck in this loop. Thought I would upgrade my 11.10 to 11.12 aqnd hope for the best. I am now stuck in a BSOD state, and am in some sort of hacked system restore state to not BSOD. CCC won't even turn crossfirex on. I hate this.

restart and load (F8 menu) the last known working configuration.

from there on you should be able to revert to previous driver.

After many try i had a problem with my system and had to clean install windows (not related to drivers). Now i'm running 11.10 without cap and i'm having the best result so far.. i hope for 11.12 to fix this issue, 11.11 series is a complete fail from AMD side

One way I solved the endless BSOD loop, was to boot into safe mod, disable the video adapter(s) in control panel, reboot, then uninstall in Windows.

even better, download driver sweeper and use it to clean out the drivers during safe mode. this way when you boot into windows it will use the default drivers instead and you can clean install any amd driver you wish.
