    Yes and when they told me I'd have to cancel my offer and reorder with the 3d screen. I've went through 3 cancellations already so I'd rather have my laptop and get the 23in 3d alienware monitor.

    if i am understanding you correctly your talking about getting the m17x with the 580m card, but with an external alienware 23in 3d display? if so i dont want to do that. what i want is the m17x with the 120htz lcd display with the 580m. i dont want an external display. Also everytime i tried to configure this online it said incompatible. i never tried calling because everytime i asked when it would be available they said they dont know when it will be.

    In a sense - I am in the same boat as you, however I already have my m17x 3D with a 460. I want to get the 580 however I really don't want to send this unit back since, for once, I received a decent unit.

    I spoke to numerous reps and they all don't know, however if its released in the UK already - it should be in the US soon.

    Also, the after POS price is nuts - ~$1200 for a one GTX 580 card. So if they can't offer me the POS price to upgrade, I may have to send this one back, or just keep this one.

    thats what i was thinking that if it landed in the u.k. it should be here soon, however i did get in contact with one agent that said even though it is in the U.K. it doesnt necessarily mean we will get it any time soon, and that there is a product refresh every 6 to nine months, we had ours with the intro of the 6990m and the 580m, the u.k got the 580m and the 3d option. So we might not see the 580m with the 3d for another 6 months. then i called again and then one person told me that the reason why it is not being released in the u.s. yet is because there might be to much demand so dell is preparing to release it so that they have enough, but no word on if it would be release soon. i am so damn confused on what i should do!!!!!

    Well, it mainly had to do with the warranty. I purchased it with a 1 yr adv warranty, and they wouldn't allow me to extended using the POS price, so I would pay around $1500 for the full warranty.

    So I was told to send it back and repurchase it. Which is annoying considering someone had the same issue and they did the POS price.

    The other small issue was the small paint chip on the top cover (as seen in my video). An exchange was offered and in progress, however it was cancelled since I decided to send the whole thing back for the warranty issue.

    IMHO, I don't think they expected me to send it back...but I did. I miss it, but since I have a gaming desktop (i7 2600k, 8GB, 600GB 10K, GTX 580), I don't really to have a "full" gaming laptop too :)

    yea that happened to me before and it quite honestly sucks because the consumer would then do the next logical thing and send it back giving them a refurbished laptop.... i am sending my gtx460 3d m17x tomorrow and i have to wait till the credit my account to get the new laptop hopefully in that time they release the 580m 3d. no one really has any info on when we will get it so i guess i just have to wait.

    Ya that's what I'm saying I thought id have classes on campus but 90% of my masters is online. So I'll just get the external 3d monitor and make my laptop a desktop.

    ==== Latest Update ====
    I have successfully ordered it through a rep.
    ====================

    I also no longer get an error when configuring it through the core M17x system. When starting with the 3D M17X system, I still don't even get a card option - stuck with 460M. However, when I tried to go through the order process using the core system, I was told on Dell's side that there is an error and that they cannot finalize the order. They called their sales tech support who confirmed that the 580M is still not compatible with 3DVision on the M17X and that their information was far more accurate than what I am configuring through their web site.

    I then tried to find out more information through Alienware tech support, they explained that they have not successfully got the card to work in the M17x with 3DVision yet. If a manager tried to overide the order, the M17x would fail in the physical checkout / testing at this time. So at this point they will not sell a system with it. I pointed out that the configuration works even on the UK site and that others have mentioned that it works in Europe too. This did not help my cause.

    I am not saying either is correct, but this is what I went through.

    I am watching this like a hawk trying to figure out what is right here, arrrrgggghhhhh.

    ======= EXTRA ========

    As this person found and a review apparently with the M17X R3, 580M and 120Hz 3D screen, it is definitely worth mentioning:

    ======= MORE ========

    There is some information that it may be a validation test of sorts. See Chris M statement in:

    The question is how does 60 fps look on a 120 hz display?

    Because I know that 30 fps looks not so smooth on a 60 hz display, because it is not at its refresh rate.
