I'm considering purchasing a new 17x R3 in the coming months and would prefer the lower resolution 1600x900 display. Display quality is rather important to me, however I'm not too keen on the 1080p resolution on a 17 inch display. That being said I'm rather leery of choosing the 'cheap' display option, as I cannot find the technical specs of the 900p LCD.

Does anyone on this forum know if there are any differences, aside from resolution, between the 900p 60Hz WLED and the 1080p 60Hz WLED? Some key concerns are: viewing angle, brightness, contrast ratio, and response time.

Alternatively, does anyone know where I can find the technical specs of each display?

    Thanks in advance!

I am also considering the 1600x900 screen. After looking at the compare side by side brightness is my only slight concern.

Thanks phage80 and darkloki, I had not seen that information before, this helps tremendously!

Given the brightness and color gamut differences, looks like I'll go with the 1080p display.

Unless anyone knows if a display refresh is coming soon? (RGB LED?)

I'm not sure why they got rid of the RGB led in the first place on the R3...

Poor decision on Alienware's part for such a high end laptop.

I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard nothing but excellent user reviews for the RGB backlighting. Like you say, I wish Alienware would include it in these enthusiast machines. Still I've heard the current 1080p displays are pretty nice with bright sharp colors.
