    Hi folks:

I'm thinking of going with the lower pixel count display option to put a little less stress on the video card down the road. I currently game at 1440x900 on a 17" Gateway FX and it looks great.

I have other laptops for movies and retro gaming. Any reason to not choose this screen? Usage is higher end 3D gaming exclusively.

Well it's personal preference so if you have other laptops with higher res then 900p is good for gaining more fps. The density will be quite low though and any loss of fps with additional anti-aliasing will basically equal the loss of frames if running at 1080p.

I thought of the same logic when going with the 1600x900 screen option. I have the lower-end AMD 6870M. I figured the GPU would be more stressed if my resolution was 1920x1080.

Caveat here is that I was ok too on a lower res 1366x768 screen from an M11x though.

if you go ahead and get the 1080p you can always game at a lower resolution and have the 1080 for other media

i dont mind my specs im my sig. the screen is clear on everything including the most detail pictures. i dont have any real good graphics games to compare it to though so it is hard to say on how a new game like bf3 would work or something.

the only time i seem to get a bit irritated with my res is when i want to put my pictures as back grounds. it cuts even the biggest pictures off a bit on the sides.

Not a good idea. It's not good to limit yourself intentionally. Get the 1080p screen. Down the road, if you need to, lower the res.

But you'll be thankful you have that screen for HD videos, and regular computing tasks.

When ordering my wife's laptop, i was on this same fence (i have the lower res in my Asus G73). I decided to try the higher res though, based on other recommendations here.

After getting the laptop, i must say that the 1080P screen was the best choice i have made in a while. The quality, compared to my Asus's screen, is the difference between night and day. Vastly better viewing angles, better looking colors, and more sharp in general (higher res of course).

If money is an issue, save it by downgrading something easier to get later (HDD, ram), and get the better screen.
