Wondering if anyone can offer some advice. Tempted to swap out the FHD panel on my 17 R3 for the UHD 4k one, just wondering if this is possible and if there are any issues I should expect to run into?
Also does anyone know if the 4k panel is gsync compatible?

Never heard of it done, it's a pain getting 120hz to work in some cases.
I guess it depends if the panel is multi-sync (as I think it will be), and it will accept the 60hz boot signal and proceed to load windows. Then the driver will take over and offer the refresh rates reported by the panel - best case scenario.
You would use the 60hz port on the MB and not the 120hz one. This is designed for a native 120hz panel and bypasses the IGP.
Gsync would depend on the card as well since it's a licensed product. If the card supports it as well as the panel, maybe??
As to issues I think it's simply a work/won't work right from the POST. -

You can't on LVDS. The bandwidth of the LVDS connection on your motherboard is almost fully utilized with the 60Hz FHD screen you already have. 4K running at 60Hz needs 14.93 Gbps connection which is leaps more than what any LVDS connection can offer.
You "may" be able to do it on the edp connection used for 3D screen. If you run the 4K screen at 30Hz as the bandwidth of the 120Hz FHD and 30Hz 4K are more or less the same. If you don't have
I would personally recommend that you don't attempt that upgrade because it would cost too much and there is a slim chance that it would work properly. Also, bear in mind that if it actually works, the refresh rate compromise is huge (30Hz is really not fun to use) and your current hardware (CPU, GPU ... etc.) basically wouldn't let you run comfortably on 4K.
As for Gsync, it wouldn't work.
