Hey, I just tried gaming for the first time living here in Japan and my power adapter overheated during a game of left4dead 2 and stopped providing power so my comp instantly shutoff during the session. The voltage here is 100v and I'm plugged into the wall using a 2 prong add-on since sockets here don't have the third round prong for grounding.
I'm not sure what the best way would be to get things to work properly; any help would be great.

If the adaptor is working properly I think the only thing to do fromthe AC side maybe to use a step up transformer 100 VAC to 240 VAC and then your adaptor will not have to work as hard.
But the 50 HZ cycle also means the adaptor is running a little less efficient as well.
The adaptor specs say it shoudl work on 100 VAC @ 50 Hz so maybe you should contact Dell and request a new adaptor. -
Thanks. I might have to just go ahead and contact Dell. My adapter has always made an annoying buzzing sound as well that I always suspected to be a fault.

Try with putting the adapter in a grounded socket. I have had the same type of problems as you have when running the adapter in an ungrounded socket, i.e. the adapter taking more power (giving power spikes over 300 Watts) and the computer turning itself off. This doesn't seem to happen when running in a grounded socket.
