    Hey all,

I'm creating this thread for organization purposes. It gets too messy, and I find even myself posting stupid stuff in others' threads, which I'm very sorry for.

I'm hoping this newly created thread will be useful for anyone who owns an R3 with a 460M (non-3D or 3D), or for anyone who may have questions about the 460M configurations.

    ---- ----

To begin with, and really, just a reminder: 460M+Nvidia's 3D bundle+1080p 120hz screen = NO OPTIMUS. All other screens, supposedly has Optimus capability. Will find out soon when I receive mine.

I'm still confused on the HDMI-In...One guy says 3D doesn't work. Has anyone else tested it?

Man kann also z.B.

This is what Markus said over in the XPS forum

He is the marketing chief for emea, and he says 3d wont work via hdmi in and ps3, at least not at this time. maybe they get a softwareupdate to fix it, but he does not think it will work. the different hdmi ports are causing the problem.. ps3's 1.3 hdmi is not supportet for 3d as you need 1.4

Funny thing about that... I have a PS3 and a 3DTV and it plays 3d from its HDMI 1.3 to my TV HDMI 1.4. I am told the variance is that the PS3 does it at 1080i instead of 1080p. This did require a firmware update to the PS3 to work. HDMI 1.4 is backward compatible with 1.3 so not sure I understand why it wont work. If I run it through a reciever with 1.2 and then patch it to the tv with 1.4 it won't work as the 3d technology detects that it was not proper. I even get a message that pops up on the TV telling me so. That's why I ended up getting a receiver with HDMI 1.4 inputs. I have a full 1080p 3D player too and will try it when I get mine. However, thats after 16-Feb. Hopefully someone else will have tried this by then.

I have a 3D display too (alienware 2310) which will only show 3D via DVI. I bought the mini port to DVI adapter for the R3 and will test that out as well when I get everything.

    -------
Not sure if this had to do with the recent update, but I am getting 1920x1080p at 24Hz (24fps per eye) on all 3D movies out of PS3. This would not be playable in game, but movies it matches what my 3d player does.

I tested XBox stereoscopic 3D using BlackOps and it didn't work for me. The game displayed 2 side-by-side views.

I don't have a 3D TV. I'm guessing that you have to configure the conversion of a side-by-side picture to 3D using the hardware in the TV. There are no menus on the M17xR3 after switching on HDMI IN so I guess this configuration is not possible.

For 120Hz 3D Vision LCDs, you need to connect using dual-link DVI as HDMI does not have enough bandwidth to support 3D at higher resolutions like 16x10 and 19x10.

Connecting to a 3D HDTV using NVIDIA's 3DTV Play, you're able to use HDMI v1.4 because you're running at 720p.

So you are saying that if i play a 3d movie or 3d game and hook up r3 to 3d tv, i will get 3d but only 720P?

also, playing ps3 on r3 via dual-link dvi, then ill get 3d that way?

I am curious if my mini port to DVI adapter will show any signs of bandwidth issue 3D or not? Has anyone else looked into using the mini-display port?

Nah. I ordered 2720+460M+1080p 60hz. They didn't have the 3D package (1699-30%) through aafes. I don't think I'll regret it though, cuz I have eyeglasses, and don't have enough money laying around to buy 3d movies and another pair of 3d glasses for my gf :)

Anywhoo, glad that this thread is useful :) I hope that it doesn't turn out to be a 3D discussion thread though, as that's not what I intended to happen :/

No no. My brother is in the navy. So we bought it through aafes. When you log in to aafes, it's essentially an EPP account (30% off up through 1/27/11). It takes you to a dell config page (with limited selections of stuff), but in general its the same as how we'd do it at the regular dell site. Then aafes, which acts like a middle-man, will send our order to dell (or a dell rep at the aafes office) who puts the order in. While configuring, you know how on the regular dell site, you see the price in the right hand corner, and under it is the savings/epp discount? In the aafes case, it's a bigger discount, which amounted to 30% the other day.

    >>So not premade, thank goodness :) When I was ordering though, I was really hoping for the 1699 bundle (1600-30% would've been $1189.30) to be available, but no go on that, so I just ordered non-3D route after like 3hours of deliberation with my brother hahaha.

We already have an Owner's Lounge. We are not going to break up by config - sorry. If I allowed that we would have 20 different OL threads. Nope, sorry.

Use the existing 17xR3 OL. If you have specific questions or info you want to post on the R3/460 option, then do a search first (we have many threads where this can be applied) and if a relevant thread does not show up, use the owners lounge. if its a specific issue or something earth shattering relating to the 460 and R3, then you may create another thread as long as another on the same subject does not already exist (for the most part, you will know if one does exist as the majority of all of you do your homework first and check around) ;)

Be sure to check here before posting a question on the R3 -
