    17r1 980m problem

    I bought a 980m off ebay (new), they say it was old dell stock for the 18. I tried to get it to work in two different 17r1s and nothing but black screens and 8 beeps. I read somewhere a while back that the dellienware 980m is not compatible with edp/120hz screen. (if this is the case then I should be ok since its for my daughters lvds machine) So yeah, has anyone else dealt with this, or know anything?

    must be full UEFI mode in the Alienware 17 to use a 980M

    To clarify, Both machines I tested it in were in full uefi mode. One has a 1060, and the other a 1070.

    I never had an issue with the 980m in PEG mode but i never tried lvds.

    Could you link to which card you bought?

    I bought 980M SLI for my M18xR2 awhile ago and also had issues with it working. It was new stock from China.

    Both my rangers have the a14+ bios and default is PEG..
    Also I am trying to catch your firestrike score (if your 3mark is Eepoturtle) do you have a modded vbios on your 1070?

    Modded vbios don't exist for real use, only thing we can do is flash other 1070 vbios to my understanding.

    I would like to use the bios off my 17r4, It has higher default clocks and always runs just a little better than my mxm. Too bad its bga though.

    That's me. I have a stock msi vbios on that card. Its just over clocked.

    Update! Working via lvds benchmarks later tonight.


    Well I can't even hit 8k in firestrike. (4810mq overclocked to 4ghz) and 32gb of ram.
    Kind of a let down, I blame the elpida memory. After the vbios mod I am able to oc the core +250 no prob but it just won't deliver results.
