Have not noted it (or looked for it) on my either of my R3's. Is it not usually a pesky thing popping up during set up?

Where did you see it in the R3? I've looked everywhere.

I wouldn't think it would cost more, check in command center, that's where you configured it on both the R1 and R2. As others have said though it's very finicky if anything is different(lighting, angle, etc) it won't detect a face :(

My command center only has: AlienFX, AlienFusion, AlienTouch. No options or menus to upgrade or buy.

May not be there or they may have gone to a different program like they did with AlienSpawn -vs- DellDataSafe. If you haven't ever used it it's even worse than finger print scanners, even a slight variability makes it impossible to use.

problem with it it needs time to get used to your face(because of the security implemented so nobody could -just use your photo and log in) also good lightning.

To the best of my knowledge this is incorrect for Alienware machines. On the Alienware machines that ship with it, it's included directly in the Command Center. It's a paid option on some Dell computers (and bundled on others).

I'm sorry that you've had a bad experience with AlienSense. If you'd like, I'd be happy to help explore things further and figure out how to improve things for you. Yes, AlienSense pays attention to angel and lighting to - as stated by another user - help prevent photo access. In my experience, however, recognition is actually quite good with just a manual login or two in a given area. The learning algorithm should start working quite quickly.

Here are some additional suggestions for optimal performance. Simply placing your hands on the keyboard is remarkably helpful in most situations. Try that out and let me know if there's anything else that I can do to assist.

How can I improve recognition performance?

Actually, I just learned that it is an option on the R3 - my apologies for not being entirely correct before.

If you'd like to try it, you may also download a free trial of FastAccess (same technology) here.

Again I correct myself (sorry - not thinking clearly today apparently). FastAccess is the same technology except that the version available for download will very soon (with Version 3.1.X) have the next generation recognition algorithm. It's specifically designed to be more tolerant of lighting changes without sacrificing accuracy. It also has enhanced photo/video rejection. From all of my tests, it works very, very well for me both at work and at home.

Wait so no one with the 3D screen / bundle has this either? That's a bit disappointing why wouldn't they mention that anywhere?

There's a lot of things that are implied you get that apparently you don't... Dell legal needs to screen these things more closely because there's a ton of return loopholes in these early shipping systems.

So is there no official download provided by Dell for Fast Access?

Definitely there is. For AlienSense, it's included as part of Command Center. For FastAccess, here are the details regarding putting it back on your machine if you had it pre-installed and need to re-install it.

If you have FastAccess but it was not pre-installed, then you downloaded it from Sensible Vision to begin with and you can use the same link to download the installer again.

Would be a good idea to get rid of it, the access is slow at best, and you can type a password in a lot faster.
Some times the software likes to turn the entire screen bright white in order to find you, blinding you in the process.
The software insists to keep on learning your face over weeks never stopping, but doesn't seem to learn much, if anything at all.
If its gone then you ain't missing much at all.

It would only be listed if it was included with your system to begin with. If you can't find it there but it was included on your original system, you should be able to call Dell tech support and request a replacement installation CD.

Contact me sometime about what you mean by "slow access" and I'd be happy to help. Yes, after bootup the camera driver needs a bit of time to load, but most users find the recognition itself to be quite quick. Significant time savings (not to mention security) are also realized with the Web Login feature that also logs you automatically into websites.

This is called "FaceBright" and is meant to provide additional lighting when the ambient light might not be bright enough for accurate recognition. It tends to work especially well on Alienware boxes with big, bright screens but if you don't like it then simply turn it off. It's an optional feature.

You're absolutely right that the learning is ongoing, quite uniquely allowing FastAccess to continually adapt to changes in your appearance and environment. That said, the recognition should become QUITE good quite quickly. If you're having difficulties, please contact me directly through our website and I'd be happy to troubleshoot directly with you. Here is some additional reference material that may also help.
Why doesn’t FastAccess recognize my face and log me into Windows every time?
How can I improve recognition performance?
How does the learning algorithm work?

Try calling Dell tech support and requesting a replacement CD. I've had many, many customer have good luck with that in the past. If that doesn't work, contact me directly through the Sensible Vision and I'll see what else I can do to assist.
