I recently reinstalled everything on my M17x R3 using an Intel X25 120gb SSD updated with the latest firmware.

When I put the computer to sleep, and then wake it up, I hear the Window's sound for a device disconnecting each and everytime.

I did not erase the factory drive. So I decided to put that back in. No device disconnecting sound upon wake up. Seems to only happen with the SSD.

I have tried a couple of things, but am unable to figure out the issue or what is disconnecting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it resuming from sleep? any resume to a black screen issue or lockup resuming?

Yeah it is resuming from sleep. No black screen or lockups. Just the device disconnecting sound.

I have the exact same issue, it actually sounds like a device being connected and then disconnected, or the opposite, not actually sure. It is definitely two distinct sounds, one immediately following the other.

It's a little bothersome, but not a huge issue.

It's definitely disconnect then reconnect. Happens every time, but there never appears to be any problems afterwards.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you have any devices attached? Wireless mouse receiver? Cooling pad? Bluetooth? Networked drive?

I do have a wireless mouse attached, Logitech USB fob in the right side of the machine. Let me try it with the device removed.

    Nope, no difference ...

I don't have any devices either. I'm going to try the 500GB HD I bought, to see if it is only the SSD.

I think it is the wireless module turning itself off when going to sleep and then turning back on so you hear it ding off and on after you boot it back up.

In my case it was the sd card reader. I downloaded some more recent drivers from Realtek and haven't had this problem ever since.

    Interesting.

Well, the RTS5209 card reader driver on the 17xR3 driver support page is version 6.1.7600.64.

The M18x RTS5209 driver is a higher version. version 6.1.7600.77.

Even if this turns out to not be the solution for the mysterious device disconnect and reconnect on resuming from S3, it certainly will not hurt 17xR3 owners to update to the .77 version.

The link to the .77 driver is here:

Agreed, thanks for the advice biobak and BatBoy; I'll give it a try later today and report my results.

I did spend a little time last night looking through various system logs to try to determine if the device remove/add was logging some details but I did not see anything.
