Hey, when i use the switchable graphics key i.e. fn and f7, i get the message saying ''switchable graphics key detected. Press yes to enable or no to cancel''. Regardless of which i press, it doesnt not tell me whether it has been switched or not, therefore i cannot tell if i have made the switch or not, let alone whether it is on or off. If i click again fn and f7, the same message comes up - surely it should be asking me would i like to re activate or something??
-
Hi, if you go to the start menu (windows logo), and then go to program files, then the Catalyst Control Centre folder (CCC), make a shortcut to your desktop of the app, and then open CCC, it should be on the "switchable graphics" page. In that window you can see and change which GPU is being used.
-
Or you can just right click anywhere on the desktop and select from the menu "Configure Switchable Graphics"...
-
-
I right click the desktop and select 'configure switchable graphics' and then it says the current active one is high performance, however if i click on select power saver, it still states that the current active is the high performance one....and if i try fn-f7 again, it does not change on here either...:S

hi guys my gpu's stop switching ,done a clean install and it was working again till the point i install the adobe flash player , now its now switching again
uninstalled the flash player but still not switching
anyone has an idea whats going on or solutions? -
try switching with all of your apps closed....
-
i did i got nothing running , really dont want to do another clean install
-
some apps in the taskbar can make your gpu not able to switch, make sure to check these too.
-
also....did you install the stock driver first THEN install the newest over the top..... just installing the newest doesent include intel driver.
-
Make sure you have the dell stock driver install, otherwise remove the driver and reinstall it once again...
-
-
not off of the AMD site....if you read the readme, it specificly states it does not support switchable graphics.....trust me....uninstall all AMD...install stock...test switching...it will work.... then install newer drivers over the top...it will continue to work.
-
but will to another clean install tomorrow, will put the intel driver first then the amd from dell , then install the flash player and hope it all works
its just weird how the flash player is stopping the switch -
install the AMD Display Driver first.
Once done, the Intel Driver must be installed when in Integrated Mode. You will need to use the FN+F7 to switch over to Intel. A reboot may be necessary. Once done, install the Intel HD driver.
Once installed, switch back over to your AMD GPU. -
this is getting very weird
-
It will only install when the system is in integrated mode. Even though you do not have the driver (intel HD) installed, its still possible to switch over.
Do you see the pop-up when depressing FN+F7? If so, choose yes to enable - if you are not automatically rebooted, restart the system.
I'm not sure what your hardware/device auto detect settings are currently set for but try what I outlined in the clean install thread -
EDIT: Pfft... I keep thinking M18x process (AMD and NV) and M17xR3 NV process. Not sure on 17xR3 AMD - so definitely try the other if the first fails.
As steve mentioned above, you could also try going back to the stock Dell release of the AMD driver and once switching is no longer an issue, update the AMD driver over the Dell stock. -

All you need to do is clean out both AMD drivers and Intel Graphics drivers through Control Panel>Uninstall a Program and then install the Dell July 6990M driver set. http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=463101. It includes the drivers for the Intel IGP and the switching utility. Do not install the separate drivers for the Intel card included on the Dell Download site; those apply only to NV cards. This will get both cards operating and the switching facility configured. Installing more recent AMD reference drivers over the base Dell drivers is optional.
-
thanks for clearing that up rev. As I mentioned in my edit - I keep forgetting that the 17xR3 is different from the 18x. With the 18x AMD, you do install the Intel GPU driver in that manner.

You had it covered exactly in the insert. I was just afraid it would get lost. Switching is smooth and easy in the R3 once configured; much more seamless than the M18x.

I went through something similar with my 6970m, except no matter what I changed I couldn't get it to swap, even between reboots.
Dell spent 3 hours connected remotely uninstalling/cleaning/reinstalling drivers of multiple versions and they couldn't get it to work either. 2 months of back and forth later - they essentially gave up and agreed to put a 580m in it.
Good luck getting it going. -

I have suffered similar problems. With me, the issue arose after installing AMD reference drivers over the Dell drivers. Switching would not work, and I couldn't open Catalyst Control Center. It turned out that the Windows installation data included five different versions of Catalyst Control Center, where only one should exist, which apparently prevented any but the original Dell version from working; when a newer version was installed, it was registered but could not launch. It required using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to delete all versions of CCC from the installation registry (after uninstalling all AMD drivers and running Driver Sweeper). Thereafter, once the base Dell driver set was installed, reference drivers (and CCC) could be over-installed, with switching and CCC working flawlessly. The installation data corruption may not be the source of your problems, but it is worth exploring if more conventional methods are unsuccessful.

I have the same issue as danielfc3. But actually I would be happy if I could change the lighting around the mouse pad depending on which graphics mode I am in (for example red for AMD graphics and blue for internal graphics). But i cannot find which "event" or "application" to use to trigger this in the alien FX program.
