Does R3 with 2670QM processor support 1866mhz ram? Or should i get 2920XM processor in order to make it work?

The 2670QM does support 1866Mhz, but I don't think it's worth it at the cost of delay. The 2920XM is IMO far too expensive in terms of what you get for your money...

Thanks, where u have readed about 2670QM -> supporting 1866mhz? 2920XM its just 300 bucks, not so expensive i think in terms of performance.

Yes it is supported but I wouldn't recommend it. There have been users reporting crashes and instability. 1600Mhz ones great though :)
I and I bet GeoCake will both beg to differ... :D

I'm using special limited edition 1866Mhz @CL9 ones, the fastest ones in the world at the moment, but to maintain stability, I run them at 1600Mhz and clock them to 1866Mhz only when I need to such as during benching.

Both 1600Mhz and 1866Mhz will score 7.9 on WEI.

well i already paid for 16b 1866mhz memory, if i would get in the troubles i can set them as 1600mhz, right?

Whats ur overall WEI score? processor, videocard, etc?

Ok well you'll have to report on how they are doing :)

    As for my overall WEI:
    Processor: 7.8
    RAM: 7.9
    Gaming: 7.8
    Aero: 7.8
    Hard drive (SSD): 7.9

    Boom :D

you have OC'ed ur processor to 4,5k mhz on all 4 cores? :O not fearing to fry something near processor? Whats ur temps? my tuned m17x r3 would arrive at 23 march → then i'll report about ram.
Do u think i can get 7.8 with my 6990m either? (Have you OC'ed ur 580m?)

I got the same WEI as Brother Widezu ^_^

Also I've heard one can flash the 1600 Corsair Vengeance to 1866 CL9 with Thaiphoon Burner - someone should test it!

The Extreme CPUs are no less than amazing, provides 2700k power in your laptop. :)

I want to get some 1866 RAM myself cause the boost however small is welcome. 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 are like £30? Worth trying to flash them...

Finally, you will only need more than 8GB of RAM if you know why you need more in the first place. ;)

What about temps? its important for me, because i had 920xm processor in G73JH it had dangerous temps when OCed.

I've had mine in the 90s when rendering for hours.. These chips don't die with the amount of thermal protection and safeguard features in them.

Rendering stresses CPU more than benchmarking I've found, your line of work won't stress the CPU that much, you'll be fine.

Probably not at 4Ghz, depends on a lot of things.. Extra cooling, ambient temps, etc.

i've run prime95 on mine for 3 hrs straight before i stopped it. Depending on the cycle of the blended test, my cores max @ 91c...most of the time hovering in the upper 80's. This is @ 4ghz. I think 10 hrs would be doable, but i havent had the need to push it that long. I can live with upper 80's

Killed → you meant burned it? What termal paste you got? what mhz is stable at the summer? What the shutdown temp for 2920xm?

no lol...what i meant was i stopped the prime95 program. I'm going to edit that post lol

I'm using prolimatech PK-1...the shutdown temp is 100c. For me winter or summer it doesn't matter because my house is a steady 75F all year round...but ambient temps do play a roll in your temps for sure

@Slick I hope you mean your house is steady 75F not 75C because that is the temperature of the Sahara desert sand.

@Heihachi, I idle around 45C on the CPU, lower now I have a U3 and I've got some passive sinks coming that will help even more :D

2670qm is cooler than 2920xm? :) should i get it or not? im playing in sc2 custom maps - they are cpu dependent.

What if i keep 2920xm at stock? what temps i would get?

A 2920XM at stock will hardly out perform the 2760QM. Temps will be similar if you keep it at stock.

    Yes lol...F, not celsius

No one should get a 2920xm if they are going to leave it stock. Performance wise, for your purposes, i'd get the 2820 instead because of the extra 2 megs of cache. Lucky for you, i have one for sale cheap lol

This is true...but the 2920 does have the extra L3 cache which makes a little bit of a difference, and will turbo higher on average compared to the 2760. Don't let the posted advertised max turbo speeds fool ya...the 2760 will not maintain that after the short interval

I've seen some people post their Windows 8 WEI here somewhere, but I can't remember where. I wanna install it as well but just not sure how to partition, etc

It's cool because it goes up to 9.9 now

There is a way you can partition within windows. In the start menu, right click Computer and click Manage.

Click into Storage, the Disk Management, right click your C drive and select Shrink. The changable value is how many megs to remove from your current partition. Once you selected your desired space for Win8, click shrink, your drives bar will now have an unpartitioned space, make a new partition and you are good to go :)

2920xm isnt must have 2.5ghz stock clock or its because of ES version? someone uses it?

That is effectively an unlocked 2820QM. Still works fine and can probably get up to 4Ghz. Look for a QS 2920XM or OEM if you can afford it.

ya, like widezu said...its a hybrid. A multiplier unlocked 2820...so it really isn't a true 2920 (eventhough they are calling it that) . It will max out way before a real 2920 will. These can only to up to 99w so if you are a hardcore overclocker, its not for you

although I can recommend the seller, i've heard mixed reviews on that CPU. Some say it works but will max out around 3.7-3.8ghz and there was one person here who had to return 2 of those because it wouldn't boot in his m17x

and Heihachi, if you're gonna get an ES cpu, my advice is to get a QS version and not a pure ES. THe QS versions are OEM level chips, but you take a chance on the ES. Those are engineering samples and they sometimes do strange things on them for testing purposes.
