I have been searching and don't think i have found one, but is there a 1920 x 1200 screen assembly for the R4?

Do they only sell the screen, not the whole bit?

What do you think will be available in the next revision for a display?

If you had SLI/Crossfire, essentially you should be able to pick up a second monitor same resolution and set it next to your laptop screen. Using this as a dual monitor set up correct?

Mostly just trying to start conversation here, pretty bored. :p

    Have a great day everyone.

Max LCD resolution available for r4 is 1920x1080, either in 60hz or 3d 120hz.

No one has any idea on what is coming in r5, in terms of LCD resolution. Unless dell/aw decides to go for crazy high resolution panels like MacBooks, we might have to settle with 1920x1080. I do not believe anyone is making anything above 72% gamut for 17"/18" panels. There are 15" panels with 95% gamut though and look superb.

With of without cf/sli second monitor should be just plug and play, I used to have a projector plugged in with m15x and m17xr2. It was simple matter of plugging in and extending the display.

Hi, man, not much to say on this but I'll bite ;)

I've been thinking of what an SLi setup on a laptop would give. I do know from multi-GPU desktops (5!) I've built, the NV driver shows what displays are on what ports so by using the mini-display port and HDMI you should be able to have 3, interesting to think of NV's multi-display 3D! But with laptops it's a different game.

Trying to not dwell too much on the R5 specs -

You have a good one as well :)

Not just plugging in a monitor and using it but, plugging in a monitor and extending displays to, say a 3840 x 2160. I don't think one 680m could push that with any great frame rates. I could be wrong, never tried it.

It would be pretty nice to see a multi-display 3D. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that, these laptops couldn't handle the heat and processing of a resolution that big.

Would it work in an R3?

IPS displays are a must. The Alienware line really does suffer from poor screens compared to that of Macbook Pros, etc. Even mobile phones in today's market have sharper and more vibrant screens.
You HEAR that Alienware! Update the screens already!

The M17x R2 with its RGB screen still outshines the R3, R4 and the M18x line up.

As a matter of fact, concerning the M17x R3, R4 and M18x's, I believe it may even be the same quality of screen (1920 x 1080) that we still have. It's just up-scaled from the M15x.

I found an R2 1980 x 1200, Everything looked in order as far as cables except is was missing the Alienhead light cable, Now that i think about it, it was probably missing the webcam as a whole. Like it doesn't exist on the R2 model? Never owned one and am fairly new to the Alienware brand. But for a gaming rig, which is all i use it for, a webcam is useless. Furthermore, I can't see the Alienhead glowing on the lid while doing anything, so essientially that lighting up doesn't bother me either. I would really love to see a brighter, sharper, crisper and more vibrant screen realeased for any newer model, as stated above. Including one released for the next revision.

Back to the multi-display. Can one 680m say, not very OC'ble, be able to run a 3840 x 2160?

Problem with trying to use an r2 display is that is a difference size than the current r3/r4 screen so it won't fit properly at all. I'm not sure even the connectors are the same. :(

as to the 680m trying to run that much of a resolution, it depends on what you are attempting to do with it. If you are trying to play the latest games, you will have frame rate issues, but for web browsing and other light tasks it would be fine.
