    Hi,

I have a M17x R3. Has anyone hooked up 2 monitors? If so, how did you do it?

    Thanks!
    Jeff.

I have 2x24" monitors hooked up. I run one through HDMI and the other through VGA. I just shut the lid to the laptop and use an external keyboard and mouse. I need the my data and applications to be truly portable and this accomplishes that.

I've had 2 types of monitors (Dell and Gateway) and the setup works extremely well. The only thing I've noticed is that the monitor connected via HDMI is usually a bit brighter.

I read another post about someone wanting to use the laptop screen and 2 external monitors. I haven't tried it because it doesn't fit my needs. Apparently though, if I read the thread correctly, there is some kind of hardware limitation in the R3 that won't allow 3 monitors to be used. So, if you are trying to use your laptop screen AND 2 external monitors, I'm not sure that it will work.

I use two monitors with the laptop lid closed.

My Samsung 24" is connected via HDMI, and my Acer 20" is connected via a mini-DisplayPort-to-DVI connector.

    Awesome!

I didn't even think about using the mini-displayport... I would have hoped to use 2 with my monitor screen, but two external with laptop closed isn't bad either, I'll probably do that and buy another 24" lcd.

    Thanks!
    Jeff.
