Ok so I am now playing WoW...Did a 10 man raid and was only getting 20-30 fps during chaotic times. 45-60 during standing still with nothing going on.

    Everything was on ultra.

How in the world is this possible? I have the game set on all 7 cores as well. I can get 50+ fps in BF3 on ultra but cant even get that in a 10 man raid in a 7 year old game???

Drivers are up to date as well. Hmmm any suggestions?

Could it be a compatibility issue? I was playing the original Assassin's Creed (2008) on my R3 and was getting some weird graphics issues. After some emails with Ubisoft, I was told that the problem was caused by compatibility issues with both Windows 7 and my 460M card.

It would seem that the 6990m card with an i7 proc would destroy World of Warcraft though...

Just a test but temporarily disable all sounds. I once found out that it makes a huge difference in performance.

Some shortcut, ctrl-alt-s or something enables and disables sounds altogether... or at least it disables, as I've found out numerous times by accident :D Anyways I cannot check ingame now since I don't have active subscription anymore.

...and latest version of WoW is only 1.5 years old. Cataclysm was a major graphics upgrade. Before that it was well playable even on my 8510w.

Ok I'll try that man. But dang..this is a $2000 computer that plays the most demanding games on ultra...like really, World of Warcraft is low fps!? lol

craig, can you do me a fav and run furmark burnin test for 4 mins...post your average temp and your average fps

just want to make sure that your hardware is ok

your computer should run that game on ultra at completely smooth frames

Sure, got a link for that?

I do have the GPU-Z and it says my temps are around 55 degrees.

edit: in game im at around 72 degrees. (with GPU-Z that is)

What settings are you using? My temps are around 75 degrees on all different options on several tests I ran.

My fps never went above 13 :(

this just doesnt make any sense...I can play BF3 on 64 man maps at ultra and its smooth as butter.

here is another one... slightly different test gave me better fps but still...low 20s??? and the GPU was REALLY hot on this one.

ok bro, that's why you're running 20-30 fps in wow. You should be getting double those frames in furmark. 10fps? even 20? something is off. I'm using the default settings and with those temps, i'm assuming that you have not repasted

I was getting 40fps...with the 6990 stock clocks and i think i took that pick with a 2630qm...with my 2920 now, i bet i get more fps.

First thing to try...clear out your drivers. Do a clean install of the lastest 12.2's...do an complete uninstall of the previous drivers. Use the catalyst install manager and do the remove all software option and then install clean the official 12.2 drivers

Ok I'll be right on to fixing that issue.

Now another issue has risen...my webcam cannot be found when using a Skype video call. Now I have the "livecentral" software installed that the computer came with and the cam seems to work with that on but it does not work on Skype because Skype "doesnt detect a webcam".

Oh the joys of buying a new machine! :(

edit: Ok I just checked. I DO have the 12.2 drivers already according to GPU-Z and my AMD control panel. I am just really shocked as to why I am having such low performance on this game rather than something way more intense such as BF3.

for the webcam you might have deactivated it by accident. Try using FN+F9 to enable it. :)

Ok final update. I was able to get the 12.2 driver reinstalled successfully. A HUGE IMPROVMENT. I was on the 12.2 previews installed directly onto the m17x without being installed on the dell drivers first.

I first installed dell drivers, then the 12.2 drivers. Now I get a beautiful 60fps in stormwind on ultra :)

On the Furmark I now get an avg of 38 fps on the base settings that SD showed. Thats close to his numbers so I am not complaining much. However, my temps maxed at 79 degrees! OUCH....thats 12 degrees higher than SD. I might have to do a paste job which I am not comfortable doing on my own (never have done one before!) :(

Good to see you've got it working on the right track.
As for the temps, make sure your propping up the back, and a cooler is a great idea as well.

It isn't too bad, as long as you are careful. Have a look at a guide and see if you think you're up to it. The r3 is the easiest laptop I've ever opened up to work on.

If you do decide to re-paste I recommend pk-1. The stuff dropped my CPU temps somewhere over 14 degrees under stress. Slick's posts sold me on it, he could market the stuff. ;) Of course there are alternatives out there, have a look around.

Is 79 really that much of a problem on the temps side? Sounds like an acceptable figure under stress.

yea its really not that bad considering you will never hit those temps while playing games. I'd play some WOW or BF3 and see what temps you get then before you get totally worried. ;)

That's exactly what it should be. Smooth frames on Ultra. Glad you got that all sorted out!

And Craig, repasting is easy. Just follow my CPU guide in my sig on how to get the heatsink off. You will have to go through the same steps, except the Vid card is on the opposite side to the CPU. Its very easy to do and should not take you more than 30 mins of your time

79c isn't really an issue...but i think craig is comparing to my temps. I have the same vid card in my R3 and my temps are 67c in the exact same Furmark test

Slickdude, do you still recommend the 12.2 preview drivers over the certified ones?

remedy, i would install the WHQLs...the previews install easier for those that have issues installing the drivers for whatever reason...but if you can install the official 12.2's, i'd go with those. Performance wise, they should be identical

Should I be able to install those over the stock Dell drivers? That is what I am running right now.

100% you should be able to install over the dell drivers
