    Hey guys,

I was curious if anyone has upgraded their 1600 x 900 screen to a 1920 x 1080. If so, are their any changes that need to be made in the BIOS or connections on the MB for the 1920 x 1080 to work properly or is it as simple as just installing the new screen?

I upgraded the screen in my Alienware 17, no BIOS changes needed. Just plug and play.

BE VERY CAREFUL with the cable that connects the display to the motherboard, I think its called a ranger? Not really sure what the name of it is. It is incredibly fragile, and there is only enough slack for it to fit perfectly. I disassembled the whole assembly so I would have enough room to get it plugged in and seated properly. This and the SSD are the best upgrades I think anyone can do with their 17.

OK cool. I'll probably still get the matte finish for the screen. I've already got a 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO. I also sent you a PM just a few minutes ago.

My plan is to remove the bezel, unscrew the screen from the back lid, remove the side bezels from screen and carefully unplug the screen from the cable. Then just reverse the process.

Should that be good enough or is there more disassembly that I should.

I upgraded it to the B173HW01 v5. Nice screen.

And I agree, be careful with the connector. There is very little slack to it. If you don't connect it 100% properly, your screen will be all milky-white and look weird.

Just pop off the bezel, remove the 6 screws, remove the bracket (2 screws on each side). Then repeat in reverse with the new panel.
