Are the 120hz screens on the Alienware good enough to watch 2160 4k vids or a waste of time? Is a higher res screen needed?

Resolution wise they are not good enough since the those screens can only display 1080p image rather than 4K (which would be 2160p). Considering there is pretty much no 4k content on the market I would stay with 1080p screen until 4k content becomes more mainstream. At the same time 4k resolutions require a lot more GPU power: 780m will not be able to push ultra settings in AAA titles at 4k resolution. In regards to 120Hz - it is only refresh rate it does not affect video quality as most videos have a lot lower FPS. 120Hz is great for gaming - if the GPU is powerful enough to push more than 60 FPS on 120Hz monitor you will not see screen tearing, which would be visible on 60Hz screen.
