Hello, I have the m17x-r2, and want to get a 2560x1600 monitor. I want it for when skyrim comes out, but I don't know if the m17x can handle it. I've heard that crysis is too much at that resolution, as I can max it out with AAx2, with native resolution, and will sometimes drop frames to around 17 if it's a really intense sequence. So Will anything thats new and fairly high in system requirements be a no go?

    Here's my specs:
    i7 720
    6GB ram
    Dual 5870's
320GB hard drive (I know, its low...waiting to purchase another HDD)
    1920x1200 RGB

    Thanks for your time.

The higher the resolution goes, the worse performance gets. That's a fact. The R2 is very powerful. You will just have to lower some of the settings in whatever game you're playing to compensate for the performance loss from the higher resolution.

2560x1600. (AFAIK) or may go beyond that. Resolution Totally depends on the Monitor you've got. besides card, almost all of em' support the maximum resolution.

You can force it to the Required resolution by using some Apps. Google them.

    Hi Yoketah!

    I use a 2560x1600 30" Samsung, too.
However i never use this resolution for gaming because many games reset the settings if you don't have the external display attached to the notebook. In this case you have to go over the whole graphic settings again :/
That's why i always use the 1920x1200 for gaming.

Another thing you want to think about is that these resolutions are only supported via DVI-D (dual link!!) or displayport. Just keep in mind that you might have to buy an active displayport to DVI-D adapter. Using these adapters (there is only one on the market, at least to my knowledge) may cause annoying troubles.

see my not so old topic on this forum:

    Have fun with your rig!
